Got asked my citizenship in the US citizens passport control line

I'm a dual citizen, UK/USA, and have traveled back and forth between England and the States many times since getting my US passport, never a big deal. But this weekend my wife and I are in the US Citizens line at LAX, get to the officer, we give him our US passports and he looks at them...

    Don't want to take Citizenship.

Since US citizens have to pay US taxes on all worldwide income no matter where earned, is there the danger he will be working in India and paying Uncle Sam even though he doesn't live here? That might be enough to make me not to want to be a citizen! I know many countries have tax agreements...

Removed from Oath Ceremony due to long trip

A Greek coworker recently had his interview and was told to supply more details about his trips as he had broken the 6 month criteria. During the interview he explained his reasons and why he had not abandoned residency. They demanded written proof which he sent and heard nothing from them...

Do you have to state your citizenship?

I have to drive through an internal border patrol checkpoint twice a week (and in fact cannot leave my home in any direction without doing so at some point - the joy of living near the border!) and often get asked my citizenship. I always used to say English and volunteer my permanent residence...

    Dual Citizenship

I'll admit that I don't feel bad about it either, I was just recently talking to a fellow Brit who has lived here 25 years and has no interest in citizenship. When I queried him, that was his response, that the first act as a citizen is to lie under oath to a judge. I'd never thought of it that...

    Dual Citizenship

I'm also a dual UK/US citizen with no intent to drop my birth country. To add another possibly interesting thought on dual citizenship.... one's very first act as a US citizen is to lie under oath (when you renounce all citizenships and fealties), not a very good start, is it? Does anyone...

Is it possible to apply for 1st passport after naturalization at US embassy overseas?

Regardless of any law, the outbound scan/inspection of documents is for the airline to confirm that you will be able to enter the country you are arriving at; they do not want the fines, inconvenience etc of having you refused entry because you did not have the right documentation. Anyway, I...

will I be allowed into Schengen countries after I become a US citizen?

Interesting, I wish there was a way to get a number for combined countries as I am sure my dual citizenship does not entitle me to 258 countries, but presumably the number is higher than 130?

Do I require to carry GC always?

I used to carry mine in my wallet all the time but then I have to go through a border patrol checkpoint every day to work (I live near the Mexico border) so there was always a chance they would ask to see it. Usually it was enough to tell them I had a GC but a couple of times I had to show it...

Can interviewer ask things not on test booklet? (National Anthem lyrics, for example)

A friend of my wife's was naturalised a year or two ago and she swears that she was asked to name the 7 continents as part of her interview. I cried foul - question have to be in the booklet - but she insists she is not making it up.

are you allowed to keep greencard(as a souvenir) after oath ceremony?

When I was checking in, I could see a woman in the back cutting up green cards into what must have been at least 50 tiny pieces. Sad really.

    Living Abroad after Citizenship

I see that this week Madonna had to show up for jury duty which made me wonder about this since I thought she lived full time in the UK these days. Of course I would not be surprised to hear she has an LA residence so that is likely how she got summoned.

Why do people get so exited about having US citizenship and feel proud of their new..

Ok, I'm English, newly dual-citizen and have to say that I don't feel proud to be an American, but then I don't feel proud to be English - we are mostly born with little to zero patriotism (outside football and rugby). Why did I apply? Largely commitment to my adopted home- after 10 years...

    Question about Attire !

I wore casual button up shirt and jeans to mine. There were a few people in suits but most were casual, couple of tshirts and jeans. Definitely no shorts or tank tops though. I think it might depend on where your ceremony is. Mine was in the CA desert, where everything is very informal. I...

    Passports Are Happening Fast

I mailed my passport application on the 26th of December and did not expedite as I have no current travel plans - I was shocked to receive it this week. It took only 15 days from start to finish. No certificate back yet but I won't start to worry for a week or two. So I finally a complete...

Now I am a citizen of United States

Huh, I thought my oath was small with just 35 new citizens. Anyway, congrats!

    Interview Cancelled

No, I figured I would just wait a while for another appointment. Figured I'd give them 60 days and then try to find out. I read on here that cancellations happen from time to time, quite often because the DO hasn't received the case file.

    Interview Cancelled

Yes, happened to me (see the sig), very disappointed when I got that letter, and I never did find out why. But don't worry, there'll be a new one soon.

    Got My US ePassport Today

Just curious, the certificate says it is a federal offense to make copies of the certificate so I've not done this. But maybe making a notarized copy is standard fare??

    Big B gets US citizenship

Ok, that makes sense. Coming originally from the UK I suppose I take visa free travel for granted, so that part of US citizenship is something I have overlooked.
