Refund of $155 PP - Forced Renunciation Fees during the Month of May 2010

Fees and SC I sent in my $175 and application/passport to the consulate in NY for the SC, then the fees were changed to $20. I figured I just made a $155 donation to the consulate, but then a couple of days later I got a package in the mail that contained my MO, application and passport with...

    citizenship - wife

You cannot sponsor your wife for a GC unless you are a citizen. Also I don't think she can apply for citizenship at the same time as you because she won't meet the residency requirement. The rule is 3 years married to a US citizen + residency or 5 years GC holder if sponsored by an employer.

    Naturalization process question

    1. Do I need a lawyer to file? How exactly would a lawyer help, do they make the process go faster? If your case is straight forward you don't need a lawyer. 2. I will be filling in Dallas, TX in October, how long should I expect the process to take - I hear everything from 1 to 2 years...

Should only one of the two spouse apply for naturalization

Unless the one spouse is thinking of contesting elections, getting a govt job or voting in India there is really no reason why both should not get US citizenship. You can always get an OCI after you get naturalized and that gets you just about all rights in India except those mentioned above.

    Oath question

How long does the oath take. In Boston it will depend on the number of people taking the oath. When I took my oath there were close to 400 people taking the oath, the entire process took about 3 hours. Get there early so you can get a seat in the front, that will shave some time at the end...

Which eligibility box should I check?

Choices I had the same options as you. Could have filed either as spouse of a USC or as a long term GC holder (20 years GC, 19 years marriage) I decided to file employment based but the only reason for doing that was that at the time I filed the N400 I could not find a copy of our marriage...

Reasons for US citizenship on relocating to India

Getting USC For the sake of arguement lets assume that Soc. Sec. is going to pay you $500 (since you have 40 credits) per month. Translate that to Indian Rs. That's roughly Rs. 22,500 (I assumed $1 = Rs.45, worse than current conversion rates). That's a significant chunk of money. Also...

Maybe there's just not that many folks that have applied from the Boston DO that are members of this forum. I do wonder why its taking 3 months for interviews in this area, but in the grand scheme of things 2-3 months more in the process is not that much.
