    NSC/Columbus(Ohio) N400 Timeline

Scruit, Looks like you'll be a United States citizen before you know it! :D Glad you got the oath letter in such a short time, especially considering that CIS was still waiting for the background check to be completed at the time of your interview. All the best, and I hope you...

    NSC/Columbus(Ohio) N400 Timeline

Hope all goes well! Scruit, I haven't browsed the forum for quite a few days. I'm glad I checked in today and saw your post. Hope your interview goes well tomorrow. I've said it many times; Columbus is one of the BEST offices, and I'm not the only one to have said that! I hope you...

    Married after interview

You are still a permanent resident until after the oath ceremony. As such, you cannot 'move out of the country after the interview' and merely come back for your oath ceremony. A vacation is one thing, but you still need to be physically residing in the US in order to be eligible for citizenship.

    NSC/Columbus(Ohio) N400 Timeline

Dream_Chaser, CONGRATULATIONS on your first day as a US Citizen!!! I know how it feels, as I became an American in the same courthouse as you last October. (The proceedings were carried out in exactly the same order as yours, too!) Oh, and did you rub shoulders with Natmcg? Enjoy...

An adopted little girl's GC to citizenship process

You're friend's adopted daughter may already be a U.S citizen by automatic acquisition. You will probably be able to find all the information you need here: Child Citizenship Act of 2000 http://travel.state.gov/family/adoption/info/info_448.html

filed N-600 for son, confusing reply from uscis

You're welcome, natchung! Even if his greencard is expired, it's irrelevant, as he is no longer a LPR, so he doesn't need one! If the conditions of the Child Citizenship Act have been met, he's a citizen. He will only need to show his old green card when applying for his United States...

filed N-600 for son, confusing reply from uscis

Natchung, Although filing the N-600 isn't required, I believe it's still a good idea to have a Certificate of Citizenship, so I wouldn't say you've wasted your money. With regards to applying for a passport, it's really up to you whether you do it now, or wait until after the N-600 is...

filed N-600 for son, confusing reply from uscis

I'm glad the info was able to help you in your own situation, mpotturi. And congratulations on being one of this country's newest citizens! :D To clarify what I wrote, you are absolutely correct about the age limit for automatic citizenship being 18. In a previous post, it was stated...

filed N-600 for son, confusing reply from uscis

How old was your son when you became a citizen? If you were naturalized before he turned 14, he wouldn't have needed to have his fingerprints taken, as he would have automatically become a US Citizen on the day you became a citizen. (As long as he had met the conditions of the Child...

Do you have to have a valid passport from the home country to apply for citizenship?

No, you don't have to have an unexpired passport for citizenship. I became a citizen last October, and my passport had expired in 1998. I had to show it for proof of travel dates that I had listed in my N-400, but there is no requirement to keep an overseas passport current.

    NSC/Columbus(Ohio) N400 Timeline

Hi, Dream Chaser! Congratulations on a successful interview! I had my interview at Columbus last September, and I was also told that the officer had recommended my application for approval. He told me I'd receive the notice to attend the oath ceremony in about two weeks. The letter came in...

I'm glad you got it all worked out! What a stroke of luck that you live so close to the passport office! :D

    New passport...Is this normal?

Kiddoso, When you applied for the passport, was the secondary identification you gave also in your new name? (maybe your driver's license?)

    New passport...Is this normal?

Kiddoso, I just looked at my daughter's US passport which was issued last April. Underneath the word 'Surname' it just has her last name. Nothing else at all is written next to it.

    Name change certificate...how long?

Okay, that's good that it's in your new name. The reason I ask is that some years ago, a friend of mine had requested a name change. However, INS neglected to process the change, and she ended up with the naturalization certificate in her old name, and no name change court order. She didn't...

    Name change certificate...how long?

Kiddoso, I was wondering, do you have your new name on your naturalization certificate, or your old name?

    Name change certificate...how long?

Kiddoso, I'm not sure how it works in Houston, but I also requested a name change, and I received it at the oath ceremony. (My D.O was Columbus, Ohio.) I thought the certificates were usually handed out at the oath, but maybe I'm mistaken. (Anyone else had to wait for their certificate of...

    My Interview yesterday!

What a wonderful day it must have been for you and your family!!! :D The picture is beautiful. It was a bit small, so I saved it, then magnified it a bit to see the detail. In my own oath ceremony letter, it specifically stated that no cameras were allowed, so I was unable to take a...
