Conference Call

Hi Edison,
You are doing a good job by sparing a lot of time here and also doing a lot of home work. It is time the team has to start working effectively. Shall we have a conference call for the core team members. We can book a free conference call from web sites (i think it is www.freeconferencecall.org) . We will be billed only for the long distance charges. If you want to book a conference call, then give 2 days advance notice so that most of us can join that.
I think that from now on, i will be able to login daily or atleast alternative days.

Per some of our team members suggestion, I Started Yahoo group for our core team members(currently 14). Please send me your Contact e-mail by PM.
It will be easy to communicate using e-mail than visting this thread for any message.

But that is a terrific idea! It will be good for the core team to get to know each other. We can discuss the course of action to be followed and also equitably share the work to be done.

I for one would like to raise more awareness in the 140 forums to garner more support and would like some support in doing the same. Plus discuss some strategies to advertise the projects more effectively. Currently, though we are seeing some decent response in the CSC forum for the Town meeting and the fax campaign, the support levels are no where near what I had expected compared to the support in the fax poll etc.

While we are waiting for organizing the efforts in the project management software, it is good idea to start creating small docs. There is so much scattered info in threads here that we will need to gather it and upload in the project software.

Better to create small docs like 1 or 2 pages so that we don’t loose attention span.
e.g. of docs are,

1. FAQ list for Project Symphony, Ocean
2. Sample letters ( so many ) for email, fax, cover letter, request for group meeting, etc.
3. Response letters received.
4. List of various websites, lobbies, forums etc.

Pls post here if you start working on one of these tasks (or create your own), so it efforts won’t get repeated by others.

I think I have resolved the problem with file uploads. So now you can create categories of files and upload stuff.
 
starting a yahoogroups for the core team is a very good idea. I am myself a member of 4 or 5 yahoo groups already (administrator of one group).

Officially i am a VA district 7 resident and that is going to stay that way till i get my GC. I am staying in NJ as a guest with some bachelors and i haven't signed any lease. I am not going to change my Drivers license or car registration anytime soon. The current project is not a long term one. I might goback to my old client in VA after a few months.

Writing small docs to encapsulate the various campaigns and projects is a good idea. Consolidation of information will create a very useful knowledgebase. BUT instead of uploading it here, we should upload it to the project management area, and leave this space exclusively for team discussions.

Bottomline: "Giving every volunteers read access to entire project and restrict write access in a group/project or subproject is what we will need. I do not know if that is possible with s/w. "


There are workarounds. I am sure of it. Giving read access is easy. Let me experiment with write access. Do me a favor. Upload this document to the Projects software as a helpdesk item. I will post the solution there. :) I had hoped to write the software for our community, but we will try to make this work for us as best as we can. At some point, I am going to install a separate server for projects. I think we will need it.

We can create a "secret" group within this forum (immigrationportal.com). That group (like the moderators hidden group) is visible only to the ones who need to access the info. But do what works best for everyone.

This issue has now been resolved (I think). You should be able to change your own PW. I tried. It works fine now.

Once I changed my password for "kashmir", I could not login as "kashmir".
So, I had to login as "Kashmir_Admin" to set my password for "kashmir".

Let me explain, "read access to entire project": That means when we keep docs under a project (open to all), then all subpprojects and sub-sub projects should be able to see it under project and later able to download it.

If immigrationportal.com software can support the requirements, I vote that we go with immigrationportal.com, since this is where everything revolves around.

But I am not to sure about the "secret" group part of it. I don't think the workings of the core team should be secret, instead it should be open. This is a grass roots project, and everyone should have rights to read/follow what is going on, and comment upon things they disagree upon. We need everyone's support to make this successful, secrecy will simply add the extra layer to the onion. And when explaining procedures to others, instead of being able to point people to a much discussed issue, the volunteers will have to go through the entire discussion again.
 
The reason for "secret" is

people can reveal their identities without losing privacy.

We can also make groups read only for all except chosen members.

Your decision. I just need to make you aware of our capabilities.
