Called Mumbai consulate today---PCC required

Guys ,
I am expecting interview in Mumbai consulate in March.
I have also called up Mumbai consulate today at 4:03 am today 11/30/2001 EST (14:33 IST) . The lady operator told me that I do require PCC from two places local police station and regional passport office. This is similar answer I got what cpnewdelhi is saying. I was looking into the form for PCC from indian embassy in NY and it says applicant has to submit original passport !!!! I am not sure that PCC from local poice station will do. Does anybody know??

You have good point but problem is to get PCC from indian consulate you have to submit your original passport with it. This process which they say takes 45 days. Who will take risk of submitting passport if you have only 2 months left for interview??? Even if you have more time there is no guarantee that you receive your passport back as it is as we know our "Customer Care" in Indian Government offices.

My PP was issued from NY consulate, and they told me, PCC will take 1-2 days to be issued. My interview should be sometime Jan.

You\'re saying PCC will take 1-2 days. Some one in the news groups posted saying it will take 45 days to get PCC and it will take only 1-2 days to get PCC if your passport has been issued by the consulate. Could you plz tell me if your passport has been issued by NY consulate?

There was a discussion in the forum which said that PCC in India can be obtained in just 1-2 days, by goint to the Dist.HQ. I have told my folks about this. They do not have any contacts and 1-2 days does not look likes the case.But they are trying.
Also because of Guru nanak holiday and weekends coming up, nothing can be done until monday. If you wish to obtain pcc from the consulate, then it takes around 45 days. That\'s what the Washington DC/Chicago Consulate says.Unfortunately, I fall in the 45 days bracket, since my pp was obtained from india.
If this rumor, about obtaining the PCC from India, is true, its going to be a very rough ride for us to obtain CP.

I fall in NY Consulate region and my passport is issued by Indian Consulate in NY. Do u know if NY Consulate issues PCC in 1-2 days if the passport has been issued by them? Also, does NY Consulate takes 45 days for passports issued in India? Any info for the above 2 questions is very useful to me.

Regarding Q1, I am not sure, but gabbar007 and others have mentioned that they can get PCC within 1-2 days, if your pp is issued in US.
U can call NY consulate on Monday, about this.
Regarding Q2, You have to fill the misc. form attached below, send 21+11 $ in Cashiers cheque/money order if sending by post (remember no mail, only fedex,ups,etc) or in cash if you appearing in person.
Also include a copy of the pp (not original) and send it to them.
Keep calling them after 2-3 weeks to find out the status.

How come your passport was issued by NY Consulate?

What happens if passport is issued by NY Consulate becoz of name change?
Does the same apply as in your case becoz the place of issue specified in new PP is New York but there is mention of old passport as well and visa is valid in old passport.

You don\'t need to submit original passport. With the app. you provide copies of your passport. Once the PCC is ready, you show them the orig. passport again & they will give you the PCC. If they insist on keeping the passport, get a UK/EU/Canada visa (it takes a day for either) & tell them you have to make a trip there in those 45 days & so you can\'t deposit the passport with them.

I had renewed my passport in NY and they issue a new one if your passport is completing 10 years which was my case

Yes, better safe than sorry. If the early Jan Cp\'ers do report any
such thing , I ll scramble and get it from bombay itslef.
Officially we have NOT been informed yet.
Lets say they do actually do this next week.
What if I have lived in Singaporre , Canada and USA .
How the hell do they expect me to get this in 4 weeks ?
They ( the US embassy officials ) are not idiots to suddenly change
rules on us.
My point is that they are equally likely to ask you to proove that
the car you have is really a V6 !!!

What if "gopingForCP" had not posted his note . We would have
never heard of this ( rumour perhaps ! ) .
The US embassy does not expect us to get such information form
unofficial web sites like this one ( I m not trying to be little this site ).

So stay calm .. and lets continue helping one another.

Format for PCC

Guys,
I am trying to get my hands on a format for the PCC.
I am not sure what the local police in India have for a format and if that is adequate.
Somebody mentioned their lawyer had given them a format. Can you please post that? I will try to get one from my lawyer on Monday and if I get one, I will post it here.
In the meantime, any formats? Thanks

Since I have only about 24 days before I will leave for my interview, I have no other choice. I hope a PCC from local police station will suffice.
