Isn't the problem more about when it comes time for you to apply for citizenship and what you got away with (travel to COP directly or through COT) in the past becomes grounds for invalidating your citizenship. The grounds for denying you is because you committed fraud (by going home as an asylee).
i'm applying too. truth be told, i'd rather get the GC through lottery than asylum, given the complications of the latter. i've applied every year and plan on doing so this year too.
got it! great. thanks porkman. will just wait patiently for the next request from them, i guess. my lawyers are optimistic about me getting GC in the next few weeks/months.
well, the issue is if you renewed your passport while on asylum, you are violating the terms of the status. isn't that right? someone more knowledgeable on this can help me out?
i travelled to singapore on RTD in august of 2004. i believe they gave me 2 weeks when i went through immigration. they were a little baffled by the RTD, but nevertheless let me through. whew! no experience with malaysia though. good luck!
those are great questions. it's especially problematic if while on asylum, you manage to renew your passport with the consulate of your home country, no?
