When I forgot to sign the application, they returned the entire packet. BTW, it was very neatly packaged and a letter from the office mentioning that the app has been pre-processed. I would not worry too much, apart from it causing possible delay in process.

I did that and had a buddy check my mail every 3 - 4 days. There is absolutely no problems with that. But it is a risk, I had decided to postpone the interview if the dates were too close. But it turned out just fine. i was away for 3 weeks.

What stage of the process are you in? When they send out the fingerprint/IL wont they tell u that if you miss the date the application will be 'abandoned'.. unless you want a refund from USCIS...
