Wonder what is the policy of the DV program on homosexual couples?

If they both win GC, they will be able to immigrate both. Otherwise, only one winner will immigrate, without the spouse.

What a freaking backward country!!! I hope all of us DV winners become Democrats when we do get our citizenship, and help to push back the stupid right-wing Republican agenda.

The question is how many countries that qualify for DV recognize same sex marriages. The fundamentals of DV is proof of documents, that is education, marriage, birth certificate, etc.. So if the country that a DV applicant and winner is from does not recognize same sex marriage how is the IO able to confirm that it is not a sham marriage. Come on..

It is really not a question about that, the fact is that the US is like a 100 years behind Europe in social issues!!!

You realize this law was signed into law by Bill Clinton, after passing Congress with significant Democratic support?

Even if marriage was done in the US (some states allow homosexuals to marry with the same sex), that marriage is still not valid for immigration purposes.

TheRealCanadian Sorry, i did not know that, but anyway, it is the right-wing who are pushing this hateful agenda.

The U.S immigration system is totally unfair, especially is these two cases.

1. If a Permanent Residents marry after they get their Green Card, they are left to choose out between The US and Family(of course there are other ways, but very difficult) -- the V visa was a step in the right process, but now it has expired.

2. If a foreign national and a US Citizen are in a homosexual realtion, there is no way for them to reunite in the US on the basis of their relationship.

And there are so many other injustices, but when was life ever fair.

But, aside from the laws and politics, how can America, the most developed nation, be like that. Even Rajeev Sir agrees with that, he actually said that the US was a hundred years behind.

most developed??? YEAH RITE!

Not sure what you mean. In most of Western Europe (including England, France, Germany, and Italy) marriage is defined as between a man and a woman. And the same is true everywhere in Eastern Europe.

Also, I am not sure about your definitions of "backward", "behind", and "progress". Marriage and homosexual relations have existed for thousands of years, and the meaning of these words is very clear.

If anything, there is a recent push by homosexual activists in the US to use the word marriage for homosexuals as well. Some may lead you to believe that the rest of the world has made "progress" on this and that the US is "behind", but if you look at the facts, this is not true.

raevsky That essentialy means that US law does not recognize it.
US has double jurisdiction. Even if state jurisdiction recognizes homosexual marriage, the federal jurisdiction does not.

I mean it's the largest Economy in the world and has the most powerful militray in the world.

What does economy size do on this matter ?
China is now 2nd largest economy in the world and approaching the US at the full speed. I guess China must have a great attitude to gay people and other human right issues.

GotPR? The point of this thread is to give information to people who might need it, although it goes off topic, but anyway it tells homosexual people what they need to know.

Tazmania Kathmandu sure is beautiful, but you see we do not have the best educational facilities, so, no thank you, i will go on with my DV application.
