Waiting Asylum decision

I just want to suggest that instead of thinking negatively about someone's situation, it's better to share a few positive words. I've been on this forum since 2018, and I've noticed people here are often feeling desperate and looking for hope (including you and me) . It doesn't feel right to take away that hope.
hopefully you receive the GC soon!!! you been struggling like us so hopefully the wait game will be ended soon to you and yeah even if we have negative thoughts on the case of someone it's better not to mention it because that could stress the person more and we don't know what are the people going through !! waiting the asylum decision one of the worst things ever because you don't know yet after these years in America if it will be your forever home or you will end up get deported after spending here lots of years!! wish y'all the best.

To those with “ application pending” I went through a similar situation. My status changed from "decision pending" to "application pending" around Fall 2018 to December 2021, and later it switched to "fees waived." Despite advice against it, I took a small risk and submitted additional evidences in early 2021. I'm not encouraging others to take risks, but I want to share my experience since each case is unique. My case was pending for almost 4 years (since May 2018). Waiting is tough, but don't give up. I reached out to a senator (was not really helpful) and later a congressman, and they helped me to submit new evidences. Now, I'm waiting for my green card and travel document. The waiting game continues until you get your first US passport lol.

FYI- I didn't go for the mandamus suit, but if you can afford it, you might want to consider trying it. Just be sure to discuss with your lawyer before making any significant decisions.

I agree as mandamus suits are the best if you can afford it plus if you have strong case like you fear nothing from USCIS i had to go through it after tried everything with them and nothing worked while many folks tried to scare me but i wasn’t cause i have nothing to worry about in my case or background check so if you have strong case and and can afford it just go for it!

I haven't tried the mandamus suit, so I'm not sure how well it works. I was planning if I don't get a decision before May 2022 (which is four years of waiting), I'm definitely going to sue them.

good thing you waited and saved your money i actually got a decision after 21 days from my interview date so i was lucky but had to sue them for the GC as 13 months passed and didn't get my gc yet while seeing everyone else get it so i sued them and after 45 days they approved my GC! sometimes USCIS IS doing random stuff than looks unfair!

You didn’t receive the card yet?

Good luck anyway but you didn't need to be that aggressive anyway i wish you nothing but all the best! btw try to do inquiries and contact your congressman it could help you.
Thanks, appreciate your wishes. Senators and congressman being inquiring about my case since March 2023, maybe 7-8 times so far, last time was 19 of this month but not helping at all, I even asked them to expedite my decision based on a medical condition and my request got denied.

If you have any medical conditions , request a letter from your doctor and send it along with an explanation. If you don’t have a medical insurance an ER doctor can help you with a letter.

I did and my request was denied.
It's unusual because they typically don't turn down medical letters. However, a letter from a psychiatrist is usually more helpful. If the asylum process is making you feel really low and causing extra concerns about life threats you are facing from your country, consider talking to a psychiatrist and get a letter.

Thanks for your advice; however, what is used to work sometime ago not necessarily can work nowadays as there is currently a big crisis within the UCSIS especially when it comes to asylum and issuing a timely decision.

Below is my attorney's answer to my question about the status change from decision is pending to application is pending. She is being practicing asylum law for almost 35 years.

"Honestly, I have seen these weird changes with other clients and it can be various things that they do not disclose to us. But definitely does not mean a “bad sign”. Let’s hope to receive something soon because they have not been making any decisions lately"

Keep holding strong , we will be fine someday, interestingly asylum is a major talking point with the expected new bill , hopefully that gets done and offers all of us relief, it has been a most tiring and emotionally draining experience, someone today on another forum has been waiting 9 YEARS for interview, people have died, marriages broken, we should even organise a picnic when all this is done and everyone has their passports:):):D

Thanks for your supporting and encouraging words. Someone shared on this Forum that his decision took 9.5 years after the interview but he eventually got his approval.

Sharing my timeline:

01/2017
Filled I-589
08/2022 Interview in Arlington Office
.....
in 2023 I sent a lot of emails to Arlington Office/Ombudsman/Congressman about decision and always received pending decision or you need to wait or something like that (auto response i think). Also I moved in FL.
.....
01/2024 I filled Mandamus with lawyer.
01/2024 3 weeks later (couple days ago) lawyer said I has been approved and sent me letter. Today status has been changed to waived fee.

Total 7 years

P.S. I filled and prepared everything without lawyer except mandamus on last step (to get decision)
