Hi meow_meow:

Thanks for your reply. Fortunately, I also got my PR card today in the mail. The E-client status, as you said, does not reflect any information about the PR card.

I am very pleased with the efficiency of the Canadian immigration system. It took them just 12 days to issue the card, and week to get by post. In total, it took them only 19 days.

Thanks again

landing Questions??? help.

Hi,

I applied in April 2002 from US and got landing papers in Feb 2004...I have to land in Canada by Oct 2004.
My question is -

1) In the application, I showed Toronto as my landing destination . Can I land in Calgary instead ?
Will there be any problem in that ?

2) Does anyone know where in Calgary is the HRDC office to apply for SIN card ?

3) In the application , I showed lot of $ amount I would bring in . Do I have to carry that much amount with me? If yes,
what is the best form to take money ? Will the bank statements suffice ?

4) I plan to go to canada for 4 days and come back to US as I am working here. I only want to complete landing process,
apply PR card and SIN card .
IS it mandatory to apply for health card and open bank account ?

i will appreciate if anyone can give replies.
thank you !!

After landing coming back to US

Hello,

I'm planning to land this weekend to Toronto via Flight and come back to US in couple of days.

I have H1 visa valid up to 06/24/2004.
What Us immigration office normally ask?

Do you guys think any problems while entering USA.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks
Nilay

nilayt,

Don't worry , I don't think they will ask any question. For me they didn't ask me anything took one pic and finger print and let me get in .

Make sure you don't handover your I-94 while going out to Canada for less than 30 days

Thanks vahope4gc,

Is it safe to assume that once landed there is no 180 days rule for PR and only required to stay 2 yrs out of 5. so If i go to canada after 2.5 yrs It won't be any problem?

Pl advise.

Thanks

You got right, you have to be present in Canada for 2 years in 5 years duration. You can come back and stay outside canada for 3 years.

where did you entered(port of entry). i arrived at vancouver airport last march 13, 2004. and i haven't received my PR card. I hope to get it this week.

Baby

I am in the process of obtaining my PR. I did my medicals March this year and I need to land (if I get my PR) before March 2004. I am planning to return to US to continue working. My question is , what happens if I had a baby in the US after returning from Canada ? Do I need to file PR for the child? Does my landed immigrant status change ? Or as a child of landed immigrants, can the baby receive PR by default?

my Landing Experience

Hi,

I landed in Canada ( Calgary , Alberta ) with my wife on April 3, 2004 and the process was smooth. I told the immigration officer that I am coming as an Immigrant and he marked the immigration form and asked to go to the Immigration section and I showed my landing paper and passport and they verified everything and took my canadian address and told our PR card will come in mail with in 3/4 weeks and it took's only 15 minutes

Then the Customs officer asked to give the list of items to follow and we gave that and it tooks another 15 min and we completed the process in 30 min.

Next day we went and applied for SIN and opened a bank account.

This process is very smooth and please remember to carry all necessary documents

My Landing experience

First some background info:
I have lived in Canada for the past three years on a work permit. When I moved into canada three years back from the US I brought my car with me.At that time I temporarily imported my car into canada. The procedure for Temporary import is you have to go to customs and they would look at your immigration document and the vehicle title and give you a Vehicle Import form 1 which you can use for the plating of the car.You dont have to go through RIV when you are temporarily importing. My car is plated in Ontario.

Now my landing experience:
I went to the Niagara Falls (Rainbow bridge) border post for my landing formality on April the 5th with my wife and my American born daughter.I have a visitor Visa to the US with a valid
I-94.When I pulled into the immigration check-point the officer asked for the purpose of my visit. When I told him I was going back to canada to land , he got our passports and the Confirmation of PR documents and gave me an orange slip. Then he told me to park my car and go up the building to the immigration dept.We went in and sat for 20 minutes before an officer called me in and again asked me for the purpose. When I told him what I was upto he then wrote a "refusal of entry" letter and pulled my I-94 out and escorted us out of the building and gave us our passports only at the turn around point to canada.I got the passport , paid the toll to the bridge and drove back into canada. The officer at the checkpoint in canada , looked at our documents and asked us to go into the immigration building for landing. We were greeted by a friendly immigration officer who constantly referred to us as "folks".Interestingly this officer specifically asked for the "refusal letter" provided by the Americans. He finished up the formality for the PR card and pointed us to the customs officials.I told the customs officer that I was importing my car.He asked me if my car was plated in canada. When I said yes ,he told me I dont have do anything and I can just leave.I told him that my car was only temporarily imported into canada and to make the process permanent I have to register it into the RIV.By this time a couple more customs officers where on the scene and they started talking to themselves .It turns out none of them have dealt with a case like mine (An immigrant landing with a foreign car that is already plated in canada). So they refused to do anything ( after I got home I called RIV and found out that I have to contact the customs office in Toronto , pay the RIV fee of $182 and register with RIV or else I would never be able to sell my car.)That's the story of my landing.
Thanks guys for all the support I received in this forum.

Document checking when landing

Does anyone know what document they check when you land for the first time to canada apart from Passport and travel doc?

Thanks

Landing Questions. Please reply.

I and my family just got our I-485 approved and we are now US Permanent Residents. I had my Canadian immigration process going on in parallel which also got approved and now I have to land inside Canada by end of June, 2004. I plan to enter Canada at Niagara Falls border sometime in May. I want to come back to the US on the same day after seeing the Niagara Falls from the Canadian side. I do not intend to stay any longer in Canada but simply want to complete my Canadian immigration process.
Question:1
As I will be driving my car into Canada, I am not sure what to tell to the immigration officer so that the car is not considered as one of the items being imported. Can I tell them that I plan to go back immediately in the same car? Basically I don’t want to get into any problems due to driving my own vehicle into Canada.
I am sure many of you must have gone through this kind of situation and would really appreciate your advice.
Question:2
Do I really need to carry Banker’s Check or Money Order with me for the settlement amount? Or the US Bank Statement should be good enough. Please advice.
Thanks everyone for help.

landing questions

Hi!

I was reading the landing experiences of a number of people on this alias. Thanks for sharing the same. Everyone seems to open a bank account in Canada even though they return to US the next day & don't intend to stay in Canada. Why do folks do that? What's the purpose? Isn't it good enough just to apply for the SIN card & return back to the US.

Thanks!

My Landign experience

Hi All,

I landed last week to Toronto international pearson airport and came back to US in three days.

When I landed they (Canadian immigration) checked Passport
and travel document and took photos of us and then I did custom.

All these procedure took 20 minutes without any problem.

I Didn't opened bank Account and just applied for SIN card.

While coming back in US immigration on Toronto Airport US immigration officer checked my visa and I-94 he took photos and fingerprinting and without any question he cleared us.

So i didn't face any single problem.

I hope this helps for any one who are planning to do this.

If you have all valid visas and I-94 and other docs you don't have to worry anything.

Nilay,
How about the settlement amount? Did you take your Bank Statements or Banker's check?
Thanks
-TRISAM

They just asked me how much you carry $$..I told them I have $15K that's it..they didn't bother to see anything...Just be confident when you answer. You don't have to carry Cashiers check but carry your bank statement which shows atleast 10K.

I hope this helps

Nilay,
I just want to know which one you had when you returned to the U.S. : expired visa and valid I-94
or valid visa and valid I-94

I was F1 visa when I entered the U.S.as a student. I change to H1 status last year. I don't know if it's your situation. If it is, what documents did you show immigration officer when you came back?
I really appreciate your reply for my question.

JYW,

I have valid H1 visa stamped on my passport along with valid I-94. These two things immigration officer looked at and let me in.

I think in your case you have valid I-94 (which comes as a part of I-797) but expired F1 visa.

I would advise you to check with attroney or us dept of visa whether that is sufficient to travel or not. Pl do so even you have to pay $100.00+ or find out if any one in your situation has travelled.

If not and you have time than send your Passport to st. luis for stamping it takes about 12 weeks to get it back If you have sent everything properly.
