Exchange program issue?

Thank you!

Have one question ... After arrival to the u.s. everyone must hand the custom declaration form. My friend who shared the apartment with me left that place recently. So I have ID with old address and may stay in hotel during this trip.

Is it dangerous to fill in my old adress to the form ( same on ID ) ?

I suppose you're referring the driver's license?

You need to get another address, maybe your friend's new place, and use that. And file AR-11.

Is it dangerous to fill "bad" address on the form? It seems that I will use hotel on this trip but dont want to put adress of a hotel.

I would discourage the use of a hotel address when you come in as a PERMANENT RESIDENT!

How can anybody find out that fact? I hope they don't check on permanent residents.

I mean I would write down friend's permanent address on the custom form. I will visit my friend, but probably stay in the hotel.

what you are doing is potentially very dangerous. I do not understand this at all. why are you risking this when people literally die to get an American green card?

I don't think they ask Green Card holders for an address. I would follow Jacko's advice about using the address on your IDs (if asked) and then later fill out the proper documentation to change it. This would avoid any confusion.

Hmm. I guess I fill the old address on the custom form - go to hotel and find another good friend who will let me use his/her address.

I don't own any property as I don't have money to afford it. I also would be fool to pay rent while outside the U.S.

Currently I have 2 friends in NYC. One lived on the address I have currently on ID. Second one has stable address in city and can catch my prospective mail.

Really serious?

I think the really "seriousness" of your situation has already been discussed to death in another thread...:p

I came through all posts since 2007 and didn't see similar problem.

Being very honest, I would have filled in the address of a hotel to custom form and then AR-11 again for new apartment.

But I dont wanna incite:) ... so I would rather fill old address and while in the U.S. I would change the address using AR-11.

OMG! If YOU have address in US, write it, if not do not write someone's else address. Address in US is not a requirement for GC holder, even a GC holder could be homeless. If you want to write friend's address just mention in care of xxxx and by upper case letters (FRIEND'S ADDRESS). Hotels, Motels, public places ..... are not your address in the eye's of USCIS.

What is the legal implication if one writes the old friend's address where the friend no longer resides, but SOMEONE ELSE who has no relationship to the given person or whom the given person has no permit to use that address iin any way from is residing ?

Don't even think about giving the same address as on ID, because that address is false address to you and it is like giving the random address to the US authority. You know the address has no relationship to you anymore and strangers are living there so it's nothing different from writing down like 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.. Not innocent mistake and remember YOU NEED TO SIGN on the custom form.(I hope you know what I mean)

The address of my DL is different from where I actually am living because I moved and DMV updates the address only in their system, but doesn't update the DL itself. So what's the big deal with filling out with different address(Actual address) from the one on ID ?
