DV 2025 AOS (Adjustment of Status) Process Only

Hello,
regarding the I-485, I thoroughly reviewed the sample form provided.

1. In fields such as Middle Name for parents or oneself, would I put N/A or leave blank?
2. In fields of addresses that are not relevant, e.g. when a ZIP code is available, would I put N/A in the Postal Code field or leave blank?

Thank you.
1. No Middle - Leave section blank
2. No Zip Code - Leave section blank

Thanks!

Some more regarding I-485:

1. For part 1, #16 and #17, if 16 is "no", why was 17 "yes" in the sample? Same situation here, have a card already.
2. For part 1, #22, nonimmigrant visa number is the red one on the passport. Mine starts with an R and I put that in the field as well. Remove "R" and only leave the number?
3. For part 1, #25a, field is selected but not filled on the sample. I was admitted on F1 and therefore select the field and fill it with "Student", correct?
4. For part 2, #3-9, principial applicant (winner) puts N/A everywhere, derivate (spouse) fills 5-7 and puts N/A in all others?
5. For part 5, #10 as "yes" for both principial and spouse applications?
6. For part 8, #65, if we have an apartment lease, we would count the monthly, or total over the lenght of lease? I previously read that everyday expenses would not apply here, such as credit cards, but e.g. leases and car payments would count; isnt a lease an everyday expense in this context?
7. If I want to add additional addresses and employers, which item do I refer to on part 14 (last page)? Page 5, part 3, number 5 and Page 5, part 3, number 9? And when providing additional info, no need to repeat the whole history of addresses/employers on part 14?
8. For part 8, 1, what must be disclosed here? Obviously direct memberships in political organizations, military etc, but how about e.g. direct relatives being military or former military, which could be interpreted as being associated with a military service?

Thank you very much in advance for taking the time to review this. Next week is printing time!

Thanks!

1. Select NO for both if that is your preference.
2. Use your discretion.
3. Correct.
4. Derivatives fill 5-7.
5. If applicable.
6. Total lease amount if you have a signed lease.
7. Use your discretion.
8. Use your discretion.

4. derivates do not N/A the other fields besides 5-7?
6. Even if it is almost over? This would push us in the 10001 bracket while in reality we would be in the 1-10000.

Also, what’s the impact of the liabilities question?

4. Yes, the rest of the fields should be N/A, that should be obvious.
6. Please use your discretion.

The questions on the form are not tricky questions intended to trip applicants. There's no need to over analyze any of the questions. I honestly don't have the time to be providing tailored responses to the questions on the forms for forum members, that is why the sample I-485 was created as a modifiable reference material.

Hello AOS brother and sister

I saw some YouTube content dictating that the beneficiary need to sign on I-134 . I believe there is no page the beneficiary will be signing on I-134 unless the beneficiary is sponsoring themselves. Am I wrong ? please let me know .
Thank you

3. I left the box blank, as shown in the sample. For the derivative, I will fill in "spouse of an F1-student."
4. I mistakenly put "N/A" for the derivative form, part 2, from 5a to 7, thinking that section was directly related to question 2. Thank you.

Question: My OPT I-20 will be ready this week, enabling me to submit my OPT application. Can I go ahead and submit my AOS application tomorrow? I understand there's no negative impact, although it's generally preferred to file the OPT application first. Would you advise waiting or proceeding?

Can someone please help me understand why this is N/A on the sample I-485 ?

Shouldn't it be like below

3,receipt number =case number

4,priority date =the first date of we are current…. that will be October 1st ,2024 in my case

5A ,B,C , my principal applicant full name

6,A number

7,my Date of birth

8,Receipt number =case number

9, priority date =the first date of we are current… that will be October 1st ,2024 in my case

Thank you

I understand. Much appreciated.

I asked earlier if parents could declare financial support from abroad, which was replied to with that support from within the US is preffered.

How would one approach evidence for support from abroad? Bank statement + letter? Is there a sample?

Did you consider to put "Student" for yourself and "Dependend" for derivate? You were admitted as student (F1) and your spouse as dependend (F2) as far as I understand your situation so unsure if leaving blank is appropriate. What do others think?

No - this applies to e.g. I-140 information, so green card through employment. You do not have a priority date or receipt number, you have a case number and case number current date. N/A 3-9 for principial and fill 5-7 for derivate and rest N/A.

Yes you can go ahead and do that. Personally, I would file for OPT before sending in my AOS package.

I have no idea, because the expectation is for the sponsor to be based in the US like I earlier stated. You’ll need to figure that out on your own.

Or file with whatever you have, keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best.

I have someone who would sponsor in addition to our assets and two incomes.

On the I-134, there are some confusions on my end...

1. Part 2, #12, I assume here goes initial arrival on F1 and no end date?
2. Part 2, #13, here we list both US job incomes as "beneficiary" and "spouse"?
3. Part 2, #16, here we list all assets of our household, including abroad?

1. The first day of your CN current month (the I-134 is in support of your AOS filing)
2. Yes.
3. I recommend limiting this to US based assets. If you're going to include assets from abroad, be prepared to include supporting documents. For example, if listing your home abroad, you will need to include documentations demonstrating you own the home such recent appraisals, trust, deeds, or liens on the home, etc. So keep it simple by listing US based assets only.

Thank you a lot.

3. Assets abroad are exclusively bank accounts (checking/savings) and stocks, bonds, certificates of deposit which I already prepared (latest statement + certified translation) as I planned to attach these in case we did not get a I-134 to demonstrate not becoming a public charge. We keep most of assets in our homecountries as moving everything on a nonimmigrant seems inappropriate, money is only moved when required. These assets are of significant value. Statement and certified translation would be considered as appropriate supporting documents here?

New question:

4. If we have an I-134, do we still include our W-2, tax transcripts? These two documents come from 10-20h/week on-campus employment during studies, so not related to our current, recently started full-time OPT employment and probably irrelevant besides showcasing we did our taxes.

3. If you’re getting a sponsor to provide your with an I-134, it is really the sponsor’s income and assets that matters at that point. I don’t see the relevance of this dance around your personal assets in your home country. If you want to use your personal assets, don’t bother with the I-134. I already explained the different instances of when an I-134 can be used. So at this point, I think you should just use your best judgment on what to include or not include on the I-134.
4. Wouldn’t hurt to include if you have them.
