DV 2024 AOS (Adjustment of Status) Process Only

Not true.I just got my updated SSN yesterday without the "DHS authorization". DHS authorization is for non-migrant visa types, now that you are LPR you are allowed to work without any restrictions.
 
Hello. I received my green card today. I have a question about SSN, I never had it before. So do I need to go SSA office or will it be delivered by mail?

That is absolutely not true. You need to go back with your GC and an application form, and tell them you need a replacement SSN card without a DHS restriction because you, as a LPR are eligible to receive that. It is not limited to USC alone. Show the section of their own PDF material that says:

Thank you Mom for your advice. I went again today and a different person accepted my replacement application. He didn't even ask for evidence or anything. He just saw my green card and submitted the replacement request. I guess the person that I talked with last time did not know the rules. I took the document you suggested with me but it wasn't necessary.

A question. Many people told me it is possible to take a lawyer and fight for the decision of denial or the refund given that it is not my fault that FBI name check was not completed. Do you think it might be true?

What I think is those people do not know what they’re saying due to the following:
1. There’s no law compelling USCIS to adjudicate AOS cases within a certain period of time.
2. It is not unusual for some applicants to get stuck in background check clearance for several months (a couple of years for some, as a matter of fact).
3. Your case was not stuck in background check clearance long enough to warrant filing a WOM (Writ of Mandamus) which might have forced USCIS to adjudicate your case one way or the other (assuming time was still on your side).
4. The AOS fee is not for case approval. It is a processing, regardless of the eventual outcome of the case. Your case was already being processed, the processing just never got completed due to DV based sunset factor.

I’m sorry your case did not get approved before the end of the FY. My recommendation is to move on with your life, there’s no salvaging this DV2024 case. Meanwhile, I encourage you to try again for DV2026, you never know.
 
Quick question about taxes.
I was on J2, married filing separately. Now I can fill jointly as we both AOS'd, do we need to wait for January to update our filling status or should we do it asap?

How did your case get resolved? Did your case get approved following background check clearance or it was still stuck in background check clearance as at the end of the FY?

I’m looking for some advice, as things have been quite stressful since my interview on 09/16/2024. At the end of the interview, I was informed that my case was under review due to a "name check pending." On 09/17/2024, the status changed to "Interview Was Completed, And My Case Must Be Reviewed." I managed to speak to the supervisor at the field office on 09/20/2024 and ask to expedite the name check process, but there has been no update or progress to this date. How long it usually takes for a name check to clear? Is there still a chance for approval?

If my case isn’t approved by 09/30/2024, I will miss the opportunity for a green card under DV2024. What if my case is not approved in time? Can I still get or request a report or clarification on my pending name check issue? I am frustrated not knowing what is wrong with my name and the reason for holding back.

Please am applying for American Lottery for my dad. He have 5 children with two different wives. But he divorced the 1st and 2nd wife and now he is with another woman which they are not legally married. So in this case, how should I do the marital Status. Can I do it married cus if I do it married, they will request for the spouse details but they've not performed any customary marriage.

Hi, thank you for following up. My case status was updated to 'New Card Is Being Produced' with two hours left on the final day, 09/30/2024. I genuinely appreciate your help and all the valuable information you’ve shared on the forum and in the detailed spreadsheet. His marital status in this case is divorced if he’s not legally married to his current ‘wife’.
