DV 2023 AOS (Adjustment of Status) Only

l immediately did the walk-in today as suggested. All was well until the officer saw that my appointment was from 1 day ago. l tried my best to plead with her but she said they can only accept walk-ins if it's before the appointment not after. She said that the government doesn't allow them to go back on appointments and told me to call and reschedule.
Mom please elaborate what you mean when you say a walk-in attempt is not limited to my ASC. Does that mean l can try again?
Try some other ASCs outside of the one you’re assigned to.

I will try and exhaust all options. But l also just wanted to ask do you think they will really reschedule my appointment as they said? or its now a matter of me trying to get an appointment through walk-ins?

Yeah, they may reschedule. But there’s no guarantee as to how soon that could happen. In the interim (while waiting to get rescheduled), your IO may observe you were already a no show for your bio, they could subsequently deny your AOS application as a result without waiting for the bio to get rescheduled.

Since you are the main selectee, hence principal applicant, your case will not be impacted by your wife's.

One thing I forgot to point out in my previous response: make sure you take into consideration how long it takes to get a new visa, since you will need a new visa stamp yourself before you can return to the US. With your AOS application already pending for a while, be aware your IL could show up any time soon. So be sure you will be able to return in a timely manner to attend your interview.
Hi @Sm1smom, thank you for pointing out that. I am monitoring the IL.
Luckily, my wife and I have an appointment for the visa renewal tomorrow.
I was wondering what your advice is on bringing up that we are on AOS during the H1B visa renewal appointment. Would it be ok if the issue will be up?

Thank you in advance,
N.

Don’t volunteer unsolicited information. Of course if they ask you about it, you have to disclose in that case.

Hello mom @Sm1smom

Hoping you are well!

What proof of finance support I can show as an International F-1? My parents are the one taking care of everything.
You need to find someone who is able and willing to provide you with an I-134 (and the applicable support documents). If you absolutely cannot find such a person, plan on attending your interview with your parent’s financial papers and hope the IO will be willing to accept that or wouldn’t even ask for such proof.

Hi,

This forum helped me a lot during my AOS process last year. Today I have a different question. Someone who is back home won the DV lottery and he has an interview on April 5th. He is asking for me to sponsor him. Does he really need the sponsorship as he is a DV winner? If he needs it, do I need to file any form or just a letter is enough?

Thanks in advance.

You need to post your question on the general DV2023 Selectee thread. The AOS thread is for AOS process related questions.

Hello my I-485 case was approved and I received a welcome notice and waiting for my card. My question is I was working on campus for 20 hours per week as a student now that my case is approved can I start working off-campus or wait until my card arrives?
March 6, 2023 Case Was Approved
March 3, 2023 We ordered your new card.

Also, do I need to file my taxes for 2022(the whole year I was on F-1 status) as a non-resident alien or as a resident alien now that my case is approved? Thank you for your answers.

Congratulations on your approval. You should wait until after receiving the GC itself before making any changes such as working off campus or informing your school of your new status.

By the way if you could share your experience here in the forum and add your Timeline to the Timeline Spreadsheet, it would be of great help to others.

If you were a nonresident alien in 2022, you file your 2022 taxes as a nonresident alien regardless of your new status in 2023.

We have the exact same timeline for approval as well as ordering of new card. Could you please update me when you receive the actual card in the mail? Also, do you mind sharing your timeline on the sheet for references. Finally, when did you get the welcome notice? Thanks and hope to hear from you

I know patience is the way to go here, but 11 calendar days/9 business days after CPO update/approval and having not received the card in the mail I got antsy. USCIS started issuing redesigned cards on Jan 30th this year - could this be a cause for the relatively longer time it's taking for my card to be produced?
