Visit your nearest SSA office with your GC and request for a replacement card.Hello Mom!
I just received my SSN but it’s said « Valid for work only with DHS authorization ». What should I do in order to get that changed ?
If i were you I would contact congressman if I didn’t receive any updates until Aug 15. I entered my home address to look up for my congressman and emailed him. I followed up with congressman office after a week and then they reached out to USCIS.Not yet because I thought my case was still too soon to be considered out of normal processing time. I received my NOA on June 30th and my Bio was done July 13th. Should I start counting the days from my NOA right? Do you think I can contact a congressman? Also, maybe this is a dumb question, on the website where you can search for your congressman, do I have to put my address zip code or the FO zip code? I guess for you was the same because you are in SF, but I am in Oakland and wasn't sure if I should contact that person or the one in San francisco
Will do, thank you very much @nabin.sfo, blessings! If i were you I would contact congressman if I didn’t receive any updates until Aug 15. I entered my home address to look up for my congressman and emailed him. I followed up with congressman office after a week and then they reached out to USCIS.
Thanks for the feedback regarding misleading folks by not being “more honest with people about how horrifying this AOS process is”, even though whenever someone comes to this forum wanting to know which option they should go with, we’ve always told them to look at the pros and cons of both AOS vs CP and make their own decision.Gosh, I'm really starting to get disheartened now: almost everyone else at LA FO has got their card or at least their interview. This AOS process truly is miserable. I think we should be more honest with people about how horrifying this AOS process is to be honest.
Thanks for good news! Do you mean KCC payment a DV Payment we did at the beginning or Payment for I485 AOS ($1225)- Thank you.I received a letter from the San Francisco field office this afternoon for my I-485 interview. Hopefully, the remaining SF applicants get their letters within the next week.
I also received a call from a Tier II officer this morning. The officer mentioned that they're aware of the timeline for DV applicants and to not worry about the potential visa exhaustion. The officer mentioned that once you've submitted the payment to the KCC they will allocate a number to you for your I-485 application. He told me there was a glitch in their system where in a previous year under the Obama Administration that applicants who had already paid the DV fee, I-485 fee, and had been interviewed were denied due to visa exhaustion. He told me that this is something we should not worry about. He said that if we do not have an interview or anything by September 15th to make sure we get in contact with USCIS to ensure we don't miss out on this opportunity.
Hope this helps!
I see, thank you.No they do not tell. Just that the interview has been completed and the case needs to be reviewed.
If all follow your advice exactly, then all can get a green card without a single visit to the interview, just by mail, as it was in my case. All your recommendations make the path to the GC clear, but unfortunately, not many people read all your recommendations, it's a pity. The forum is fantastic, free and spiting in the well from which we all drink for free is not fair. Thank you for being patient with us!Thanks for the feedback regarding misleading folks by not being “more honest with people about how horrifying this AOS process is”, even though whenever someone comes to this forum wanting to know which option they should go with, we’ve always told them to look at the pros and cons of both AOS vs CP and make their own decision.
Yeah, we were not honest enough and subsequently are responsible for the fact that you did not bother to fully educate yourself about the process before jumping into it considering you only joined this forum (going by your previous username) in May, which was a couple of months after you had already sent in your AOS package.
Yeah, we were not “more honest” by telling you in advance to not relocate to a different State after sending in your AOS package even though we were only informed of this long after the fact. Yeah, we were not “more honest” even though at that point I took great care to explain here about how YOU have probably further delayed your case as a result of that move.
Yeah, we were not “more honest” by letting you and your CS know you were supposed to be given Hep B shot which led to your getting a RFE when you could have received your IL or a waiver at that point.
Finally, yeah we’ve not been honest enough, so we certainly need to be more honest about a service being provided for free (even to folks who have lawyers working for them).
No, as already statedHi All,
Regarding the DV lottery, my friend was not born in Australia only she has Australian citizenship. She is a dual citizen. Do you know that she can apply for the DV lottery with her Australian passport?
Thanks
Not allowing you to be your wife’s interpreter is normal, the interpreter has to be a third party and you were lucky they actually had someone else in the office that was able to interpret for her. They could have suspended your interview at that point if there was no interpreter available and asked you to come back another day for a new interview.I see, thank you.
I think there could be misunderstandings because we've slept very little and we might have appeared nervous and there could have been misunderstanding because of that.
Is it worth to try and contact the officer via Infopass and explain this and ask if they need any extra info or documentation or would that probably do more harm than good? It really felt like we fell out with her at the end of the interview, although she didn't say anything outright but she didn't let me interpret background check questions for my wife and called an interpreter (my wife was able to understand the previous questions).
Also the officer corrected our work addresses to the actual addresses we work at (not employer legal address), maybe they just need to check that?
Yes they got new information about your job which they probably need to look into for accuracy and to confirm non violation of status. They will conduct their own investigation if needed, your explanation at this point would not matter, and you can’t even get an INFOPASS appointment for that anyway. If they need any information from you, they’ll send you a RFI.Actually my wife told me the officer made a "No exit" mark/correction on our I-485s that I haven't noticed (I think this has something to do with us not leaving the country since entering it first time, which we've already provided in our forms so I am not sure why it was "corrected") and the employment address correction that I've mentioned is not straightforward (it's not the office I am assigned to but rather a deployment location, so if they try to verify it my employer might tell the official office address instead), so maybe it's worth to contact the officer via Infopass and explain that?
You may take your kid along as a derivative applicant, I don't think they will prevent him/her from entering the building once you explain he/she is also an an applicant.Hi, received IL for august for myself and my spouse. For my kid there is no letter. should I take my kid to the interview? In backside of the letter, it is mentioned that I shouldn't bring children, friends, family to the interview. children under 14 may not be allowed to the interview room. kid is a derivative applicant.
I'm actually confused by what you wrote here re: "officer made a "No exit" mark/correction on our I-485s that I haven't noticed (I think this has something to do with us not leaving the country since entering it first time, which we've already provided in our forms so I am not sure why it was "corrected" So I have a couple of questions for you:Actually my wife told me the officer made a "No exit" mark/correction on our I-485s that I haven't noticed (I think this has something to do with us not leaving the country since entering it first time, which we've already provided in our forms so I am not sure why it was "corrected") and the employment address correction that I've mentioned is not straightforward (it's not the office I am assigned to but rather a deployment location, so if they try to verify it my employer might tell the official office address instead), so maybe it's worth to contact the officer via Infopass and explain that?
@gvbri3ll I'm in the same situation. My package was delivered on July 5 to Chicago Lockbox, I have not yet received any e-notification or NOA and my cashier's check has not yet been cashed but @Sm1smom told me that there is nothing I can't do at this time. Thanks for good news! Do you mean KCC payment a DV Payment we did at the beginning or Payment for I485 AOS ($1225)- Thank you.
Also, my package got delivered on Jul 3rd. Still nothing from Uscis, nor MOney Order Cashed. Can anyone advise on that? Should I contact USCIS after a week or two like @DIESEL1337 mentioned or contact congressman?
Thank you all for help.
1. Yes, like a correction that she notified us about, but I think I’ve missed it cause I was very sleepy. My wife told me it was there. There is indeed no such section, my wife is not sure where it was, but probably around “Recent immigration history”I'm actually confused by what you wrote here re: "officer made a "No exit" mark/correction on our I-485s that I haven't noticed (I think this has something to do with us not leaving the country since entering it first time, which we've already provided in our forms so I am not sure why it was "corrected" So I have a couple of questions for you:
1. Do you mean the IO actually wrote "No Exit" on your I-485 form? I don't understand what you mean by he made a correction as there is no section on the form I'm aware of where exit information is requested to be provided, as you also stated you already provided that information. There is a section with question about last entry (last arrival), but not about "exit"
2. When did you enter the US (date)?
3. Which visa/status did you enter with?
3. How long were you admitted for (number of years)?
Congratuations!1. Yes, like a correction that she notified us about, but I think I’ve missed it cause I was very sleepy. My wife told me it was there. There is indeed no such section, my wife is not sure where it was, but probably around “Recent immigration history”

3. L1
4. That makes it 1 year.
On a side (and very important) note our online statuses have changed to “New card is being produced”. Does that mean that our cases have been approved? I can’t believe it has been that fast. Actually just called USCIS hotline and they’ve told me that it does not necessarily mean that my case has been approved and that they can’t see if it’s approved or not and told me to watch out for an approval notice in the mail.
I wasn't complaining about this forum - sorry you read it that way. I was merely venting about this AOS process. Thanks for the feedback regarding misleading folks by not being “more honest with people about how horrifying this AOS process is”, even though whenever someone comes to this forum wanting to know which option they should go with, we’ve always told them to look at the pros and cons of both AOS vs CP and make their own decision.
