I have checked the other years and there were two cases in 2015. One was approved immediately, while the other interview was on 04/30/2015, and CPO was on 09/09/2015 (Around 4 months).

It's not about helpfulness, it's about exhausting your options. You would usually try to contact tier 1, then tier 2, then congressman/woman or senator, and after all that you explore other options. So if you have not tried tier 1 or tier 2 and you have time left from FY, try those first.

PS: It depends on the FO, but they usually are fast to respond if the congressman/woman's case worker actually follows up. I've seen some case workers gives a 30 days timeline to hear back.

I don't think you can extrapolate from those sporadic data.

PS you did not say if your field of study falls under TIL list or if you from a country where background check usually takes longer.
 
Hi Blade_

How long does it takes for USCIS to request files from KCC. Is it a long months process or just few days process. My files has not been requested from USCIS to KCC. Does the IO ask file with KCC after finalizing the case or ask at the beginning with KCC

When getting my F1, I went through AP which took 60 days, and it's indicated on my visa as 'Clearance Received'. I am not sure if it's my field of study, which I changed from IT (Information Technology) to Data Science. My homeland is Kenya

Please enumerate when you have more than one question.
1. It's an electronic file transfer. It's a quick process.
2. Depends on the IO. Therefore, applicants are encouraged to inquire about the KCC file and BG check at the end of their interview. Due to the DV cases being small numbers, some IOs are even not aware of the process, so it is good to ask about your KCC file.

Since you didn't ask, chances are, your background check is the issue. If it was my case, I'd have give it a couple of weeks for my case to get updated. Then I'll follow with a tier 1 call and a tier 2 call back request and then a congressional inquiry.
 
How long can one wait before filling out a request outside of processing time? It’s been about 3 months now since I’ve got my Bio appointment, I’m from the Portland,OR FO.

Thanks @Blade_ . Is there a way I can ask about the status of my background now since I missed asking at the interview?

Not really. In my case, I did receive a letter from IO indicating that my background check is pending, so they need to wait for that. This was 3 days after my interview.

Guess I'll have to be patient for a few weeks then. How long did your background check take from the interview date?

1. To be clear, my suggestion was to call next week, not a few weeks. (a couple of weeks from the interview, not from today).
2. Read my immigration history at my 'Profile -> About'.

Do I chat with Emma and request to speak to a tier 1 officer or call the USCIS customer service number and request the same?

Please explain in details how to ask about BG check or KCC file at the end of interview? Thank you
 
On may 11th I had my biometrics appointment, on may 12th I have got an update “you case it ready to be scheduled for an interview”. after that i haven’t received any updates or mails from uscis. it’s been one week. do i need to be concerned
