DV-2014 How it differs from previous years ? Plus few questions !

Thanks aos13. It helped me a lot. I am planning to phone to the US embassy tomorrow.

I have one last question. I dont have an address for question number 10 on form DS230. I am planning to write an address to question 11 but N/A to number 10. Because i am not intending to live at that address honestly and i dont want to write wrong information to the form.

I searched for at google but couldnt find any good answers.

Calling embassy may not be super useful, bu go ahead and do it. I'm sure they have something on their web site, I'd look for that first.

#11 is clear, but I'm not sure about #10. Putting N/A may not be a good idea though. You can put an address now, but you can change your mind later, and let the officer know during the interview. Again, finding people from your own country and ask for their experience is a good idea.

Franko, I read your post with interest. I am also a software engineer living in London. I applied for an H1 visa this year (and got selected in THAT lottery) so I'll probably be in the States on the H1 before the interview comes up (if at all).

My number is 2014EU000314XX. From what I have read, that sounds borderline to me. It also means a very long wait for an interview - probably Jul/August of next year at the earliest?

Fingers crossed...

Hi britsimon,

The reason that I am interested in DV is quite simple for me. I am an aerospace engineer and I could find loads of work (probably) in the US but as a citizen or GC holder. Reason for that being military programs. Most of aerospace companies require their employees to be GC holder or a citizen.

All that aside I would like to be able to move where I want and when (more less) I want and DV gives me that. As I stated before, DV isn't a matter of life and death but I could fulfil my long time dream of living in Cali (I had a chance to spend there 4 months and got married when I was on holidays in Malibu :))

I'm just gonna stay positive and wait till next year. Hope all numbers become current by June/July and some of us high numbers will get an interview. Also with 31k number I think you have a pretty good chance of getting one yourself.

Also I think you can be on H1 and still go for the Diversity Visa. Ist't that right raevsky??

You might want to do some research on that to make sure. Some companies look strictly for US citizens.

Believe me I have.

And you are correct, some require US citizenship but the ones I am interested in are OK with permanent status. Also my CN is pretty high anyway so no point of thinking about it now :)

I would say no. I would say less holes. My statistics shows that among first 27000 numbers for EU there are 20% more entries in DV-2014 than in DV-2013. That means there are less holes - right on the amount of additional 20% entries

Well, all this depends on what those holes are made of. Are they created when DOS is doing a fraud check after the initial and single random draw? If the system is better at finding bogus entries, should it place more holes between legitimate entries, and therefore inflate the cutoff level? Say by 20%, meaning CNs in the mid 40ks would have interview?

Sorry for this late reply
I am quite sure that previsious answers already solve ones doubts around but I will reply somethin anyway
@gokhan8282 documents are available online for downloading and you must send DSP-122 one per family and DS-230 one per person (individual DS-230 for every member of your family-as you are not applying with family then just one DS-230 and one DSP-122)
You must also add 2 photos.
If you have any problem with the steps or on filling the documents, you can search for models online or you can call at the embassy/consulate close to you
The faster you'll send the documents, the better
You need to send the documents with a courier or via post-offices.
@raevsky I am not that sure your calculations and statistics are that right but we will see. I am more and more convinced that every selected CN will receive a chance for the interview. Now, from there on is a different kind of story and I stand to my statements and say that if no or less delay will made on aswering to the confirmation and if all documents will be in order, many selected individuals will have their visas. Many will not pass as in other years because of errors on documents, inability to prove education, financial or professional experience or long AP processing.... We shall see the results in one year time

What is happening now is that those entries that were eliminated before the interview (that were holes before, in DV-2013) are no longer holes (some of them, those 20% increase). I think DOS expects to eliminate them at the interview. I have no idea what exactly type of situation it is, I am thinking just statistically

Yes, you are right. We shall see. But we are so impatient... ;)

There is still something I don't get though. If they have selected more entries (20% more) with the same number of visas available at the end, how could they interview everyone? Unless they have put in place more stringent criteria to pass the interview, I don't see how this can work.

Hello raevsky. Thanks for the help.

What does photos included mean? I will anyways send dsp-122 and ds-230 in the same envelope right?
Do we attach the photos?
What do we do? Post all forms and photos in the same envelope?

And secondly you said that its depends on the consulate.
why does it matter? Because we people all are going to send it to Kentucky.
it writes 2 photos at the internet site.

Some consulates require more than two. It is better to send as many as the consulate requires in that case. Otherwise they could ask you to send additional ones.

How did you get the 2014 statistics? I cannot get anything by status checking system?

Nope, it won't work until the number becomes current. The statistics I use is from Russian immigration forum. You can see the date when person reported being selected and approximate number. For both DV-2013 and DV-2014. So you can see how many persons reported their wins at each date.

How big is your sample? Even if you get some difference, is it statistically significant? I think we'd better wait until vb come out.

I am more and more convinced that every selected CN will receive a chance for the interview. Now, from there on is a different kind of story and I stand to my statements and say that if no or less delay will made on aswering to the confirmation and if all documents will be in order, many selected individuals will have their visas.

Well, the fact remains that there are 125K selectees as opposed to 100K. Everything else being equal, there will be more people who won't be able to get a GC.

I think that this 125K business can be due to sequestration. There are enormous budget cuts in every governmental organization; maybe DoS thought it'd be somehow cheaper or more efficient to have 125K selectees? Just a guess.

125K vs 105K, not 100K; DV-2013 had 105K winners
sequestration has nothing to do with it, it is not on budget, DV program covers itself

How big is your sample? Even if you get some difference, is it statistically significant? I think we'd better wait until vb come out.
VB will not have that information anyway. data from the forum shows only open wins while VB shows all wins, open and close. VB does not distinguish between open and close wins and never did. That is why forum data shows much larger increase than VB data will show.

The cutoff number before all current is usually 5 times of oct cutoff number. That is what I have seen in Asia these pervious years. I don't know if you have run a statistic analysis or not. Otherwise, i cannot get any usefull information from the whole bunch of data you listed there.

My number AS19XXX. If oct cutoff is around 4000, many I still have a chance. If lower than that, I will totally give it up. Am I right?
