Hi
I received our passports back today with the visa stamp and the landing papers. It took 8 days for the passports to come back from the time they were recd at the Consulate and they did come back in the express mail envelope I had sent along with my passports.
The letter requesting for our passports was dated 18th Nov 2002 and received by us on 22nd Nov 2002. But we were flying the same night to India for a 2 month vacation so could not send the pasports. We reached India and sent a letter through courier to the Consulate General explaining our position and asking for an extension on the 30 day time period for sending the passports.
Received another letter from the Consulate dated 19 th Dec 2002 and marked as second and final notice and asking us to send our passports within the next 30 days. Also that our file will be closed after this period is over. This letter also mentioned that they did not receive any response from us with respect to their first letter dated 18th Nov 2002.
Sent another letter from India attaching proof of our first letter and asking for extension.
Reached USA on 17th Jan, sent the passports on 18th Jan 2003 (it had to be a weekend....just our luck), recd at Canadian Consulate on 20th jan, visa issued on 22nd jan and passports received back on 28th Jan 2003.
It was a truly long process .....where in my case they kept loosing and finding everything from my letters, FBI cards, affidavits to the ROLF. So one thing I learnt from this process is that its really important to keep you airway bill Nos and proof of receipt of package months after it has been sent to the Consulate. Because you never know when they might tell you they have not recd this or that from you. So you really need them as proof.
Also technically I sent my passports after the 60 day limit and stilll managed to get the visa but I guess it helps if you write to them with proof and try to explain your situation.
Well Good Luck to everyone else in the waiting game.........It does feel good to have the visa in your hand

Funds - depends on your family size

The minimum required funds depend on your family size. But I heard you should show more than the required or they might have some issues. Please see the funds requirements by CIC

Hi Jowood,
good to hear about your intial assesment. i was wondering i dont see any one who applied in dec and did get assesment on this site...i have applied in dec 12th 2001 . i have not recd mine. could you please let me know do u have masters? did they asses your application according to new rules or old ..how many points you got ...i have been waiting for letter ...did they ask you to do finger prints again...

The Immigration and Refugee protectiona act clear states that
"Applicants will be strongly encouraged to take a designated language test as proof of their proficiency levels and to submit those results with their immigration application. This will enhance consistency. It will also foster a faster processing of applications as a selection interview with an officer will be required less frequently.
Applicants whose claimed proficiency in an official language is patently evident from circumstances such as their living, work environment or education may opt not to take a designated language test. Such applicants will, however, have to provide written evidence of their claimed proficiency with their application."
So I guess the IELTS test is not mandatory as long as we can provide sufficient documentation to substantiate our claim. I guess some letters from our workplace, old school marksheets, etc ought to do it. Not sure what other documents would be required

Hi all,
Today I received my/our passport/s with canadian visa stamped. I sent my passport on 27 jan03, they received it on 29 jan03 and they sent it on 4jan03.
I did mention Toronto as the destaination place on my application, is it ok if i now decide to go and land in British Columbia??/

Guys,
Through the last few months, I have been diligently following the Buffalo tracker in the hope that the case processing will speed up but to no avail. This is my third year in Canada-came here on a student visa, got a great job when I graduated, but now my work visa expires April-end and there is nothing I can do.
My employer is trying to get HRDC approval siting employer hardships etc. as a reason-but my lawyer told me it can go either way. I will know by march-end where I stand.
But things could have been a lot worse if I did not have this forum to listen to others who are in a similar position.
So good luck to all of you.
