Got the approval letter now what

Hi all!
Just received my approval letter and medical forms!
Applied => 10/10/2001
File Number => 11/15/2001
Approval => 10/24/2002.

The letter asked me to submit 1) updated FBI clearance 2) Bank Statements.

However, it said that I shouldn't do my medical until 6 months from the day of this letter. I was under the impression that I have to finish it ASAP once I receive my med forms.

Please help!
Also, if anyone has any questions about the anything else, please feel free to post your questions, comments etc.

Congratulation ParadigmShifter

Its seems like people having AOR of 11/15/01 atarted getting response. Its seems like they are working according to the the AOR date rather than when they received the file in their office.

Terrible!!!!!

This new trend of not do medical for another 6 months after initial assessment is Terrible!!!!

May the one more stunt to delay the processing time.....

WHat might be the reason for it... any comments...

I am wondering because his filing date is 10/10/2001, but he recd his approval prior to all of us. While mine and dhaka101's filing date is 09/29 and 09/25.

This indicates that processing may be done by separate office or may be by diff. groups. While file number generation is done in a batch.

I am adding myself to the tracker under the name of rscool. I recieved my initial assessment yesterday but they have written that I should get my medicals done after 6 months.

Just a reference to other persons getting the assesment that almost everybody getting the requrement to submit additional documents like recent paystub, W2 and bank statement. It is just not for you only.

Sequence? Will take 18+ months after the Approval?

I think they are not following the file number sequence but randomly using files. Quite a few who applied after me (9/25/2001) already recived the Approval notice while many others and myself are still waiting!

I'm not sure what they are up to. But looks like to get the visa stamp will take another 18+ months after the Approval notice if Interview is waived (from they are asking to wait for 6 months to do the Medical which is good for 12 motnhs). If so I'm in deep trouble. My H-1B 6 year will expire in May 2003 (no Labor applied).

Any expert advice PLEASE on how can I stay leaglly in US? (with J-2/ E-2?)

Hi Dhaka.

Thats a tricky situation. I think either you should try getting student Visa and stay here or tranfer your case to your country of residence once it will approve ( which will be pretty soon).

Take some other experts advise on this too...
 
6 month wait for medical

For all of you who have received their medical forms and have been asked to wait another 6 mths, don't loose heart. I think its because they have so many applications that they are unable to issue landing papers and visa to everyone who gets their medical done, on time.

Take for instance my case, I got my medical done on May 1st 2002, and sent the additional info requested in June 2002. But I am still waiting for the landing papers. If they don't send me my landing papers in the next 6 mths, then my medical will expire and I have to do it all over again. That means waste of time as well as money spent on medicals $ 1000 (for 2 adults and a Kid).

So I think it makes sense to wait for 6 mths for medicals if u know u are not going to get your landing papers before your medicals expire.

No other way out...............

I think read it in the FAQ section in one of the candian (buffalo) websites mentioned the it takes 18-20 weeks to receive a file nbr.
Since you have filed much earlier than me , I guess you would receive it any time.

I got my assessment a couple of days back. With an interview waiver (at least for now). I'm assuming (and hoping) they will NOT call for interview after this. Says I have to wait for 6 months for the medicals just like other posts here !! Additional documents requested : certified reference letter, Paystub, bank letters, W2.

So I guess most people getting their assessments now are getting the same message about the medicals. The reason that comes to my mind is that they maybe taking more time now due to background checks plus the increased number of applicants. All this may make the medicals invalid, if it takes 12 months or more to finish the background checks. One could do the medicals now, but there maybe a chance that the rest of the process can take really long to finish up and it's a risk in a way.

So what are you guys planning to do ? Take the medicals within the next 6 months or after that ? I don't know what to do now.

Hi everyone,

Is getting a "certified" reference letter the same as what we originally sent with our applications.

I'm not sure what the difference is between a certified reference letter and a normal reference letter (on an official letterhead and including whatever information they had asked for).

Can anyone please advise ?
