    You are right Why-R2. I sent an email to SF consulate and got the response that I only need a copy of marriage certificate and change of name affidavit - no advertisement in newspapers are needed. thanks for your insights.

    The only status I saw was that the passport is in final stages of processing and I should receive it by xxx date. I received the passport the same day and 2 days later got the naturalization certificate too.

    many post offices don't require an appointment. Its best to call and find from the post office. I know for sure in that the one in Alviso and one on Lafayette st (Santa Clara) don't require one and are not crowded usually.

    Oath done today at 1.30pm at San Jose. The ceremony started about 45 min late and was over in about ~30 min. There were about 70-80 folks I believe who took the oath. Now moving to next stage - applying for the passport !

    Oath Letter Received ! Interesting - we are in the same boat ! I received my oath letter yesterday. Oath is scheduled on 09/10 (Thursday) at Monterey Highway, San Jose office at 1.30 pm. My wife also had the interview on the same date as mine and her oath is scheduled on 09/11 (Friday)...

    Oath Letter received for my spouse (and not for me) today. Oath is scheduled on Sep 11th at Monterey highway office, San Jose. This is pretty fast - we had our interview last friday (08/14). Also, the letter came addressed with the new name which my spouse specified at the time of the interview.

    Name Change question in San Jose, CA area

    We opted the name change option for my spouse during filing of N-400 (San Jose) and have got the fingerprinting and interview dates so far for both of us together (and in reasonable time) . So I am not sure if name change delays interview. Will see what happens after interview.
