Have you applied to preserve your residency using N470? (that is different from the re-entry permit you mentioned) If you did, then you should be able to count the time before you left the States. Did you leave because of employment abroad? Was your N470 approved?

I submitted the supporting documents with the application- I think that makes it easier for the IO to review your file beforehand (if they do that). If you have them, why not send them in? My status did not change even once after they received my application. It was pending when I received the IL, and after I had my interview on the 03/23, it still shows pending.
