DV 2025 AOS (Adjustment of Status) Process Only

Hi @Sm1smom! I have a Sunday night question for you :))

View attachment 6143

For this part, I checked the instructions on excel sheet, the sample form, also made some research online, talked with my other friends applying with DV program, and still I have a doubt whether to select 1-e or 1-f.

My wife is primary applicant, she's PhD student and also research assistant, making around $1350 p/m. I am also PhD student and I'm teaching assistant, making around $2000 p/m. We have 2 kids, purchased a house with mortgage around 6 months ago, living with no financial difficulties so far in a small town.

I added our tax returns for the last 3 years, the last 5-6 months' bank statements and pay stubs, and current employment verification letters for each one of us. In this case, 1-e looks more appropriate for us but still there are some people saying that as F-1 students we should still go for 1-f and fill affidavit of support form.

For your valuable experience, what would you suggest me by only looking these information?
All DV based AOS applications fall under the 1e category regardless of whatever the applicant’s financial status is.

Oh perfect! Thank you! One more then :)

You know the i-485 form has been changed recently.

In the previous form, there were some yes-no questions followed but "if said yes, if said no" stuff, like J-1 visa question in previous form:

1.jpeg

So when people selected no for 24a, they were skipping 24-b and 24-c.

Now in the new form, it does not say skip (19-20-21):

2.jpeg

Should I leave them (20 and 21) blank, or select no?

You wouldn’t be penalized or assessed wrong if you tick NO for 20-21 on the basis of having selected NO for 19.

I was going through the timeline and I see that up to this date, nobody who attended their interview got a decision yet.
Although this has been a norm for the field office where I took my interview, I could notice that all other offices were doing the same.
Only those with waived interviews received their approval and/ or green card.

Would one be penalized if they insert "N/A" like I plan to do for these questions? Like this:

On the new form i485, Part 4, Q7 says to list educational history for past 5 years and to use Part 14 if you need addition space. The next question, Q8, says to provide the most recent school outside U.S. ("if not already listed above").

I attended a high school in my home country within this 5-year period and it was also the most recent school outside the U.S.

So, should I list this school twice in my application (for Q7/Part 14 and for Q8)? I prefer not to list it twice and only show it for Q8.

It’s not a case of what you prefer! Answer the questions as asked. I think you really need to stop over-analyzing and just answer the questions as asked.

Hi everyone,

I had my interview today and my Green Card was approved! I'm incredibly grateful for all the support provided through this platform—special thanks to @Sm1smom and all the amazing volunteers who generously help each other here. You've patiently answered even my smallest questions, and I'm truly thankful.

My interview was scheduled via phone call on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, and took place today, February 24, 2025. Due to the short notice, I did not receive the interview letter beforehand, but this did not cause any issues during the interview.

The officer conducting the interview was friendly, and the process was smooth. Despite bringing all relevant documents with me, the officer did not request to review any. The questions asked were straightforward: He inquired about my field of study, and why I chose it, and then proceeded to ask a few Yes/No questions directly from the I-485 form previously submitted.

At the end of the interview, the officer congratulated me and informed me that my application was approved.

For reference, here are the key dates of my process:

February 24, 2025 New Card Is Being Produced
November 13, 2024 The fingerprints relating to your Form I-485, were taken.
October 11, 2024 We received your Form I-485.
10/11/2024 -Lockbox delivery date
07/15/2024 - DV Fee payment
Detailed version of the timeline is updated in the timeline spreadsheet. (username : Mimi)

All the best!! Thank you.

Take a look at the link below to verify your applicable mailing address. Once the link opens up, scroll down to the table in the mid to lower section of the page to locate your State of residence and the applicable lockbox address.

Congratulations! Were you alone or with a family? The reason I'm asking is i want to know if they only focus on questioning the main applicant or they ask everyone too.
