Hi everyone, I wanted to share my full DV-2025 AOS experience for those going through the same path, especially F-1 students without sponsors or family in the U.S. This forum was a huge help to me, so I hope this can help someone else.
My case number was EU21XXX and became current in August. I adjusted from F-1 status while studying in college on a full-ride scholarship. My family is low-income, I don’t have any relatives in the U.S., and I didn’t feel comfortable asking anyone to fill out an I-134 for me. Instead, for the public charge requirement, I included the following along with the standard documents listed in the AOS guide:
– Financial aid award letters from my university for academic years 2023–24, 2024–25, and 2025–26
– Offer letter for a well-paying summer 2026 internship
I never submitted the DS-260. Since I was still in F-1 status, I didn’t want to risk showing immigrant intent in case my number didn’t become current and I had to re-enter the U.S.
Here’s my full timeline:
– DV fee mailed: 06/11
– DV fee cashed: 06/17
– 2NL received: 06/24 (Through email, they did not use my SASE)
– AOS application mailed: 06/27
– Application delivered to lockbox: 07/01
– AOS check cashed: 07/10
– NOA received: 07/16
– Biometrics rescheduled via EMMA: 07/22 (originally scheduled for 08/06)
– Walk-in attempt at Philadelphia FO: 08/29
– Congressional inquiry submitted: 08/29
– Congressional response: 09/11. "Liaison said case is processing and likely to be adjudicated before Sept 30, but no guarantees."
– New card produced: 09/22
– Green card received: 10/01
– New SSN received: 10/06
A few additional notes:
On 08/29, after not hearing anything for a while, I tried walking into the Philadelphia FO. I couldn’t meet with an officer, but the security guard let me speak with someone upstairs who works at the office (not an officer). She was very kind and told me I wasn’t the only DV case there and that they are aware of the deadline. She encouraged me to submit a congressional inquiry, which I did later that day.
On 09/11, I got a response from my representative’s office saying they had spoken with the USCIS liaison. The liaison told them my case was being processed and they were hopeful it would be adjudicated before the end of the month, but couldn’t make any guarantees.
I never had an interview; it was waived. My case was approved on 09/22, and I received the physical green card on 10/01. My new SSN arrived in the mail just a few days later on 10/06.
Important note on SSA: I went to my local SSA office right after I received my physical green card, thinking it might take weeks for SSA to mail me a new SSN (despite me requesting one on the I-485). It ended up being a waste of time; they apparently don’t accept walk-ins anymore, and I couldn’t get anything done. I scheduled an appointment for mid-November and went back home. Then, just a few days later, the SSN showed up in my mailbox automatically. So unless you're in an urgent situation, I’d recommend waiting 1–2 weeks after receiving the green card before trying to go to SSA.
I hope this helps someone. Also huge thanks to everyone running the forum, especially Mom.
