Waiting Asylum decision

We applied for asylum in Feb, 2016. Had an interview on Sep 24 this year and 2 hours ago status changed from decision is pending to decision was mailed (8:30pm). Is there any chance we could still get „fees were waived”?

Are you in status? have you tried entering your A-number in the EOIR website? Hopefully I'm wrong, but chances that you get fees were waived after decision was mailed are very minimal. If you're out of status, it's probably a referral.

We have TPS status. And yes, we checked EOIR website but there’s nothing there yet (I guess it’s because our status changed late evening)

Do they sit w/ you on interview or they sit outside?
Anyone, recently had interview? Interviews are in person or online?
Had in-person interview 7 months ago. If you dependents do not have affidavits in your case, they sit outside and wait. They might be called at the end of the interview to respond to security questions.

In my case I was invited first as a main applicant and after my interview finished, the officer invited all my dependents (including the one who turned adult) together to ask the security questions.

Hi, Friends,

Any latest update ?

I applied my affirmative asylum on June 24. I did interview on Sep 24. Waiting for decision. Officer told me after two week you will received by mail.
Interview location Chicago.
Hi bro, We have similar case. I applied affirmative asylum on june 24, I did interview on Sep 24. They approved my EAD on Dec 24. I am waiting for my EAD card. But asylum case showing decision pending. If any update let me know.

The reason behind this is 1 year rule.
If you apply right away & USCIS get to your application within 12 months, you'll get denial and have to re-apply.
This happens rarely since current processing times are 16 months but you never know.
Therefore, lawyers recommend 6 months wait after approval.
Thank you for the answer.
Are you sure that it will be denial or USCIS will put case “on hold” till 1 year pass?
If your lawyer has clients with denials because of 1 year rule or approvals of GC with date of issue earlier than date of asylum approval?
Or is it just possible theory?
I read strange things that you should prove that you will live in the USA for 1 year after approval at time of adjudication (which is in the future), so lease agreements, bank statements can prove that you don’t plan to leave the USA for long time

Guys
I just got my asylum case status updated to Fees were waived, is that for sure an approval?

Applied in March 2017
Interview was in Nov 2018

I’m beyond excited, but I don’t don’t want to tell my wife yet.
Congratulations with no worries 100% if you saw fees were waived you can congratulate!)

Did you apply for Mandamus or tried anything else to accelerate decision or just waited for 6 years?

Yes you have chance if you see fees were waived within several hours.
I also saw decision was mailed first but after 1 hour I saw fees were waived.
So if it wasn’t changed after 1-2 days then it is 100% referral or denial. EOIR will be updated much later
Please let us know the outcome

Hey bro. I applied in Chicago too but have yet to receive an interview notice. Would you mind sharing your timeline? (date of biometric and interview notice)

It's more like USCIS will mess up and approve your application before 1 year. (l've seen some stories online) Even if this is their fault, your GC will still not be valid and they can reverse it whenever they find out regardless of how long you've been holding the GC. For example, if they find out this error when you submit your natrualization application, they can take your GC away and you have to start a new I-485 application.
