S. 1932 Status

just a thought

I have a feeling still lots of people still don't know about S1932. Why don't the weekend Asian TV and radio program relay a message briefly describing the need to support the bill , also the lawyer in the immigration section need to place emphasis on lobbing for the S1932 other than discussing visa bulletin?

Get a TV Slot for Q&A Discussion session

All, I would suggest that, we can get some TV slot for an hour to have Attorneys' discussion followed by Live Telephone calls to attorneys. So that this can attarct all levels of people including legislators . We can ask some attorneys like Rajiv to participate in this TV discussion. Any idea?

I am also sending my lawyer a email informing him about the this web site and the link to the isnamerica.org. I am going to ask him to send emails to all of his clients who are in the same boat as we are and to pass the word around

Guys SERIOUSLY, good thing you guys are faxing, but we need to step it up a notch! START meeting your local Congressfolk. We NEED to convey that message to their ppl
 
why don't we post a stat onthe site and update it with how may people have met with there congress man and from which state and which states are left specially those constituents who are onthe conference committee. if even one person from each district get a chance to meet with there rep, others can join. This way we can keep a track of the progress.
 
Spoke to NumbersUSA

Guys i just got off the phone with NumbersUSA.com. I spoke to Steve who seems to be their Systems Admin. I asked him what his views were on Immigration. He said they were totally OPPOSED to ILLEGAL Immigration and their goal was to see it go down to zero. I asked wat abt Legal Immigration? He said, we wud like to see it reduce a little, but we are not opposed to that majorly. He said there are particular instances where one H1B can bring in abt 20-30 extended family members :confused: :confused: :confused: . I told him, that was almost impossible as an H4 is granted to only dependants, but he insisted that there were rare cases when that did happen (dunno how!!??). I told him that Legal Immigrants bring in value etc and he said, they wud like to see it reduce a lil, coz else there will be a population explosion. I asked if he had a breakdown of numbers from 1976 todate of how many illegal and how many legal ppl had entered. He did KINDA admit that there was a masive surge on non-immigrants in the Clinton admin and even b4 that. Then he said that last year, they admitted close to a million immigrants and it was a 50-50 split (illegal/legal). I aksed him, if they wud be willing to meet with a group of us, just to discuss this issue, he said sure, shudnt be a problem.

It seems like they are opposed to illegal immigration, but not as much to legal immigration. If anyone wants to call the number is 703-816-8820. They are based in Arlington VA, i think that may be close to Washington DC, coz he kept referrring to the DC infrastructure being taxed due to too many ppl (ppl NOT immigrants). If someone in that area can arrange to visit them with this same PPT presentation, i think we MAY be able to sway some support in our favour.

Any help anyone? I am from PA, else i'd be going to their office.

Representatives are pretty strict with meeting only people from their district. Senators are for the whole state. You have Lieberman and Dodd. Go to www.senate.gov. YOu will find their contact info.

UPDATE

Roy Blunt today in the House said that next week will be the last week. They will be returning on Tuesday and will be voting everyday until they adjourned. They will then be returning in the next year.

Things to expect in the next week are:

1. Defense bill
2. Bringing all the appropriation work on the floor.
3. Motion to go on conference (Early in the week).
4. Conference Report on Deficit reduction bill
5. Conference Report on Tax bill

The conference members will be declared in the next week, once senate return from the Thanksgiving vacation. Both Senate and House returns on Tuesday. We have to keep sending the fax to the senators and House of representatives who has played and will play major role on the final version of the bill. The backdoor diplomacy is going on and it is very risky for our cause to wait till we know the names of the members of the conference committee.

I exchanged a couple of mails with my congressman Mike Honda. There is still a lot of confusion about the various provisions of the packet S-1932. Most r generally assuming it a incresing the H1-B Quota alone.
Can some body list down the amendment numbers for the retrogression ralated issues, so that i can mail it to him.

Great job. Communication helps. I was under the impression that numbersusa is quite hostile towards the "using the unused visa numbers from past years to solve retrogression issue".

I am still waiting to hear about an appt with our district congressman, meanwhile I'd be happy to meet anyone at numbersusa. Its somewhat far for me, but I'll manage.

Thanks for this effort. I will contact them over phone tomorrow and see how it goes. Will let this forum know.

I didnt specifically mention any bill or unused numbers. Just asked their stance on immigration. If you and someone else can gather with them for a face to face meeting, and impress upon them why legal immigrants are needed in this country, i think we cud ease off some pressure from them

If they were not opposed to legal immigration, why would they be sending out faxes like crazy at such a time. Are the messages about their recent actions not that reliable? May be I should research on them some more.

I did see the faxes on their website. But that is mostly for H1bs. If you can research it a lil more that wud be awesome. Also a face to face meeting always helps. If you guys DO end up going, remember to educate them abt chain migration. They will tell u that sometimes 1 H1b will bring in as many as 20 more, ask them for specific examples, if ur right there. Educate them that it is NOT POSSIBLE, unless the guy has one wife and 19 kids. You can ONLY bring dependants here, NOT EVEN ur Parents!! Try and politely ask them for specific cases when they give u "numbers". We desperately need to educate them abt the MAJOR difference between an illegal immigrant from wherever and a HIGHLY educated/skilled person here. Also pls point out that even though many skilled workers have lost jobs, there are still MANY unfilled openings due to shortage of certain skills. Try and mention that if they dont allow legal immigration, jobs will leave the US.

I think some of you guys down in VA shud pls go and meet NumbersUSA. I have a strong feeling it WILL make a +ve difference.

You can see the interlinking also at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_reductionism These organizations have been built on immigration reduction platforms and there is little chance that they would change their stance.
 
yes...jobs are already leaving usa.....we can show them the recent news of intel and microsoft investing/hiring more in india..
 
what about people who have brothers and sisters , father and mother uncles and aunts even friends who are US citizens (can vote, specially with the mid term elections coming soon) , sending faxes on their behalf stating to support this bill, and explaining the congressman that EB class family member will not take jobs away from US workers since they are already working in us and paying taxes (better than sponsoring a family member , who will immigrate to us and might not have a job , burden on US economy)

I think if in the fax they state that they are voting US citizens in their district it will have more profound effect

I have one brother who is us citz and one uncle and aunt who are US citz, I don't think they would mind doing that much for me ? :(
