Hi,

I'm a US GC holder and plan to visit Canda next week by road. From what I understand, all I need is the GC and passport. Is there anything else needed? Also, would like to understand what the process is returning to the US. Do they take your GC and scan it or just look at it or do they stamp your passport? Also, do they do address verification. I dont know what the address on file for my GC is as it was 4 years ago and it may be different from my current address. Is there a way to find out what address USCIS has on file?

Thanks in advance.

You do need GC and yourself only, no passport, no addresss. BTW you need to updte your address with the USCIS every time you move from your place.

You drive up to the booth. Roll down your window. Answer the questions posed by the officer. Present any documents requested. Drive away when cleared.
Yup.. that's all! I was asked to show passports at Buffalo POE, NY. Based on my experience, bringing passports would be a smart thing to do.

cheers!

I would take my passport. It seems some people are asked for it, and some aren't. To change your address, file an AR-11 (right?).

Thanks everyone for your input.

I was checking on AR-11, and it say address change must be reported within 10 days, could there be issues if you do AR-11 after 10 days. I didnt know GC holders require this. Wouldnt they have the current address from IRS/Social Security/Credit Bureaus etc? Would be nice if there is a way to see what address they have on file. Just dont want to do something at the last moment (my trip) and raise a flag unnecessarily.

It should be within 10 days, but to do it after 10 days is better than not. You are the source who provide this not SS or anyone else.
