Project "Ocean" : Become a U.S. Citizen by 2008 Election !!

my (kashmir's) strategy (in California) for Project Ocean

(originally posted at VSC forum)

Here is my strategy:

Our resource is very limited because this project is part-time for most of us and because only a few members are active.
So, I'd like to focus only a couple of items.

I think the USCIS top management people are stupid (at least not smart) and ccwardly (against Ashcroft?).
For instance, the USCIS had been keeping Zero Tolerance Policy since 3/22/2002.
Nobody could not withdraw it, although everyone thought it was foolish policy.

The VSC is better than other service centers.
Of course, the TSC is the worst, but the CSC is next to the TSC.
So, I'd like to skip working to the USCIS, especially the CSC in California.
We may have a small chance for the VSC, but I think it should not be our priority due to our resource limitation.

So, my current top priority is 6th request of our petition.
We need at least one Congressperson to introduce a bill and serveral co-sponsors.
We started contacting several Congresspersons in California.
We will meet one of them on coming Saturday.
Now, we are faxing the petition to Congressional offices so that they can notice our presence.
Once we have a channel to Congress, we can use it for another requests of our petition.

My second priority is 1st and 2nd request of our petition.
The solution is:
1) to assign reasonable number of officers to adjudicate only EB I-485 cases
2) not to take away these resource to another category for any reason.
Our approach may depend on the service center.
Again, in California, I'd like to skip contacting directly the CSC because it must be waste of our valuable resource.
(I'm not sure for the VSC.)
So, we need to continue sending the petition to Congressional offices until they complain against the USCIS (the CSC).

I don't have third priority.
The above two items are enough for me, but still it must be tough, and I have a lot of things to do.

Once I become a LPR (lawful permanent resident), I will make a donation to related politicians.
And, I will vote once I get a U.S. Citizenship.
MONEY and VOTE are most important keys to implement our requests.

Is there a Dress Code for Meeting

Guys,

I'm not kidding here, I would seriousely like to know, how do you guys want to be dressed for the meeting. I've no idea, I personally prefer casualls, I dress like a typical bay area guy.

A round neck T without pressing and a jeans. But I dont know if thats the way we should dress for the meeting. Shall we be in formals, to get some notice and get some respect?

Any ideas are welcome.

thanks,

Hi, rk4gc,
I think "casual" is OK according to my experience to have attended another town hall meetings twice.

Immigration

As a member of the Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security, and Claims, I have fought hard to protect the rights of immigrants, fix the problems with the INS, and have worked to create new immigration policies that will lead us through the 21st century.

In the 107th Congress, I introduced legislation to improve the way the INS handles foreign children who arrive at our borders with no parent or guardian. These children should have a right to counsel, a right to an appointed guardian, and, as children, should be separated from the adult immigrant population throughout the immigration process. Currently, the legislation I introduced has been incorporated into a bill that will establish the Department of Homeland Security.

In my seven years as a Member of Congress, I have actively supported efforts to improve the conditions of refugees around the world and have asked the President to allow Colombians and Salvadorans to apply for temporary protected status to escape armed conflicts and natural disasters in their home countries. I have also introduced legislation to continue to allow legal permanent residents to work as airport security screeners in the same way that legal permanent residents are allowed to fight for our country by joining the U.S. military.

From my experience as an immigration attorney and from the large number of requests for assistance from my constituents, I understand the frustration of dealing with the INS. This is why I support efforts to restructure the INS while advocating for the use of innovative technology by the INS, all in an effort to reduce the large backlog of immigration applications.

Finally, in my years in Congress, I have fought for ways to improve our immigration system to address the need for high-skilled workers while making sure we develop and implement a long-term, workforce training agenda in the United States to alleviate the shortage of workers we experience in prosperous economic times. I will continue to advocate immigration policies that will sustain our economic growth and global competitive position throughout the 21st century.

I faxed Boxer, Feinstein and rep Christopher Cox

although Cox has gone through, my fax is still redialing the other two as their fax is busy

I sent my letter, the petition, and the signatures (100+ pages) to the Campbell office of Congressman Mike Honda by priority mail this morning.

Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D CA 16th)

Town Hall Meetings
Saturday, October 11, 2003
Hester Elementary School
1460 The Alameda
San Jose, CA 95126
9:00 AM - 10:00 AM
rk4gc, I (kashmir), and other two guys attended the first one.

Ms. Lofgren appeared just at 9am and started the meeting.
Also, many people surrounded her after the meeting,
so we had no chance to talk directly with her.

However, we handed two sets of documents,
1) cover letter w/signature, address (1 page)
2) petition (8 pages)
3) list of signatures (115 pages)
to Ms. Jennifer, one of staff,
and she promised to arrange a meeting with Congresswoman for us (ImmigrationPortal.Com)
and to inform rk4gc, a resident of CA 16th district.

She talked about Iraq and economy (jobless problem) for the first 10 minutes,
then Q&A for about one hours.
Most of questions were related to the above two issues.
There was some discussion about PATRIOT Act, and everyone seemed to hate John Ashcroft.

Request a meeting with Congressperson

As I wrote at the report of Lofgren's town hall meeting,
rk4gc requested a meeting with Congresswoman.

I think we can request a meeting with Congressperson if we have already sent more than three or five petitions to her/him.
For my district (CA 14th), I will send a request to Anna Eshoo tomorrow.

I think Mike Honda's CA 14th District is ready.
Can somebody in CA 14th District request a meeting to Mike Honda ?
I (and maybe many people in Bay Area) can support CA 14th District.
