Processing time for green card based on asylum

Okay guys, I'd like to share my timeline of I-485 and WOM.

July 2024 - asylum granted by Immigration Judge.
Nov 2024 - Filed I-485
Dec 2024 - Fingerprints Taken
October 2025 - WOM filed
Jan 13, 2026 - RFE for medical
Jan 20, 2026 - Second RFE for medical (because civil surgeon made mistakes in first one *sigh*)
Jan 29, 2026 - New Card Being Produced
Jan 30, 2026 - Case Approved

Now hopefully I'll get the actual GC in mail in the next 2-3 weeks.

wow, congratulations! looks like WOM still does work

It does, indeed.
Congrats! Do you think it’s too early to file a WOM after 11 months of waiting? I want to file when I reach 1 year of waiting, but worried it would be too early since the waiting time is 20.5. I don’t want any chance of them rejecting my application. Also did they ask for a RFE of 1 year of residence after asylum granted? thank you.

There is a risk they might ask to dismiss.
Just because it worked for someone it doesn't mean it will work for you, or the opposite, just because it didn't work for someone it doesn't mean it won't for you.

There's luck involved and also find a good attorney who specializes in madamus lawsuits. Some attorneys say 1 year is an ok time to file mandamus, while others say 2-3 years is a good time.

Congratulations! Could you please share info of the attorney who filed your WOM? their fees? and when did you enter the country?

so even if I get approved by the USCIS, I go to the interview for green card, again?
I got approved without an interview, asylum granted by IJ.
But I heard interviews are way more common for asylum based I-485s than under Biden admin.

Be prepared for interview, it's more likely to take place than not.
Was your asylum approved during Biden time by USCIS?

Today, after almost a month, I was able to chat with a live agent and he responded that my case is pending adjudication (never told me such a thing) and he didn’t directly respond if my case is still at NBC or local office. He said “If you receive a notice from USCIS it will tell you the office the notice originated from”
Any ideas ?
I filled 22 months ago one year after my approval

I will be filing for AOS soon, my spouse is derivative , a housewife and doesn't work.
Hence there is no utility bill or paystub in her name

How should she prove her legal presence ? any experience or suggestion here ?

I filled 16.5 months after my I485 but USCIS didn’t respond within 2.5 months and my lawyer decided to withdraw the case and re-file it again at 21 months (2 weeks ago) of waiting time to decrease the chance of dismissal of my case.
Make sure to check with an attorney

Did you try to talk with another agent? or the third one? I figured different person will give you different answer. Some maybe answer your questions clearly

Good job.
The lawyer spoke to me yesterday and said that after contacting other lawyers, reviewing court decisions, and consulting with USCIS, they told him that we must file a mandamus petition after one year and 16.5 months , as specified on the website. He said they will dismiss any request before that or will fight it. Of course, this is after all the delays, and while it used to work before, the situation is different now. My advice to anyone considering filing a mandamus petition is to first choose a knowledgeable and competent lawyer. Also, before signing a contract and paying them, make sure they are transparent with you so you don't end up with a lawyer who is only interested in the money and won't even respond to you. Because after they take your money, which is a very large sum, over $5000, you'll be at their mercy, and they won't even answer your calls. In short, do your research and ask questions before embarking on this process.
good luck!!
