Processing time for green card based on asylum

Good job.
The lawyer spoke to me yesterday and said that after contacting other lawyers, reviewing court decisions, and consulting with USCIS, they told him that we must file a mandamus petition after one year and 16.5 months , as specified on the website. He said they will dismiss any request before that or will fight it. Of course, this is after all the delays, and while it used to work before, the situation is different now. My advice to anyone considering filing a mandamus petition is to first choose a knowledgeable and competent lawyer. Also, before signing a contract and paying them, make sure they are transparent with you so you don't end up with a lawyer who is only interested in the money and won't even respond to you. Because after they take your money, which is a very large sum, over $5000, you'll be at their mercy, and they won't even answer your calls. In short, do your research and ask questions before embarking on this process.
good luck!!

me? no Trump admin. August 2025 after 9 years later.
You should be in a slightly better position then people who were granted under Biden. I think people who were approved asylum under Biden are more likely to be scheduled for Green Card interview. But that's not 100% as I had no interview for GC and my asylum was approved during Biden. So I guess it's as always YMMV

Today, after almost a month, I was able to chat with a live agent and he responded that my case is pending adjudication (never told me such a thing) and he didn’t directly respond if my case is still at NBC or local office. He said “If you receive a notice from USCIS it will tell you the office the notice originated from”
Any ideas ?
I filled 22 months ago one year after my approval
What does your status say online?

Oh and Emma said they are adjudicating your case? So maybe you've got good news coming your way soon. At least, I hope so.
Yes, actually this was the second time they told me this.
I tried to expedite my case 2 months ago and they didn’t accept it and told me my case in adjudication process. But emma never told me that, Emma used to tell me it’s in normal processing

Great, your friend is really lucky. Just to double-check, are you sure the I-485 was filed in 2025 and not 2024?
Don’t forget that he waited 1 year and 2 months then he applied so they considered this time of waiting also, i filed February 2024 but i didn’t wait one year so i’m still waiting so they are like balancing the wait time

Hey, did USCIS tell you that they counted that person’s waiting time?

The clock officially starts when you pass one year not when you filed, the clock starts when you file only if you wait one year then apply like what he did, i asked so many lawyers about that, the period when you file right after granted asylum is just preparation period but nobody will adjudicate your file until you pass 1 year of granted asylum.

Okay, thanks for sharing.

Is anyone currently submitting for GC? Is the process still on pause, or has there been some movement?
It has been a year since my asylum was approved, and I am planning to file my I-485 next week.

I was scheduled to speak with a Tier 2 Officer within 10 days to expedite my GC application. It has been 20 months with no updates. Any suggestions are appreciated! A long wait time is my first reason for expediting it, but I am also an international researcher expected to visit other countries (not my country of birth). Does this call help me give them a "nudge" to review my case ASAP?

Guys, I need your advice and help, please.

I’m planning to visit family in Qatar( not my original country). My green card application through asylum has been pending since September 2024, and I don’t have a Refugee Travel Document yet.

If I apply now for the RTD, could it affect my pending green card in any way? Do you recommend waiting for the green card first? Also, is traveling to Qatar while my case is still pending risky?

Thank you so much for your help and for supporting people in the same situation. I really appreciate it.
Make sure Qatar accepts your RTD. Also, OK to travel with RTD while GC is pending. Many positive experiences were mentioned here. Just search for it. Good luck

I did that last month and my expedition request was not granted. I don’t think long waiting time would be acceptable for them (I have been waiting for 21.5 months). They may only accept it if you are in hardship or some humanitarian situation.

Don't worry about the pause, just file for your benefit. Even if there was a pause there's nothing we can do about it but I'd go ahead and file. The pauses will one day end and they will continue with your case but don't lose time.

Thanks for letting me know! I will use the info on this page and tell them it is an "Academic-related commitment" and I cannot travel to countries with my approved asylum and RTD. Some countries don't accept it, where I need to go and be present.

Any other positive experiences are welcome. There is very limited info about this topic here.
