Processing time for green card based on asylum

Hi
Happy Friday :)
Is there any difference between green card holder travel document and asylum( pending I-485) travel document?
Do you have your green card on hand now? You may submit an application for a green card based one now and see if they would require you to turn in the old one. If they requires that it means that they are the same.

Advance parole is not for asylee or pending I-485. AP is for pending asylum cases (not asylee ) . You need to apply for travel document (RTD) . RTD is currently taking forever ( about 17 months ) and it’s very sad that the RTD cases are moving at slow paste . You can try your chance and expedite based on strong ground . However I’m seeing many 2023, I-131 cases are getting approved but 2022 are barely moving . I hope uscis are not practicing LIFO even for RTDs which is not fair for many people who are waiting for long time to get their TD to go meet their love one , family in third country
I was told by USCIS Agent that I would be issued an Advanced Parole in local Field Office based off the emergency situation and made us an appointment. I went to the Field Office and were told by the Officer that they don't issue Advance Payroll to Asylees but could only request the Processing Center to expedite it for me, which they did. I had my application for RTD pending for more than a year. Hopefully, I will get it soon.

Does anyone know if we can travel with RTD and the Passport from COP? If so, do I need a Visa in my RTD, for the third Country where I could have travelled to without a Visa since that Country is Visa free country for the passport holder of my COP? So, the confusion is whether I should travel with both RTD and the passport, or just the RTD.

Every attorney will have a different advice. Mine advised me that it's best to let your passport expire and simply forget about it, and to use/renew RTD as needed until you get the citizenship. I am personally very okay with the "hassle" of having a RTD ever year, applying for visas to travel, and even being stopped by passport control on a RTD, if this means I am free from persecution, safe, and on the way to get my citizenship without being hostage of my passport and risking questioning/being stopped. It's a very short-term first-world problem in the grand scheme of asylum/citizenship things.

@niki1205 Are you a green card holder? Can you compare the categories of the two RTDs on different bases?
My understanding is that they are the same in terms of validity, conditions, and re-issue processes. The difference is that travelling with RTD as a green card holder might be easier/less hectic (entry wise) than travelling with RTD as an asylee with a pending or no AOS application.

Honestly the real hassle is the processing time 1.5 year waiting for RTD and it’s valid for less than processing time . There are a lot of things that can be fixed easily but I’m not sure why it’s getting worst.

I feel like they forcing us to use the COP passport once you get your greencard lol

Cause if you apply for any visa using your COP passport it wont take more than 14-20 days to get the visa not 17 months to get RTD that 90% of the world wont let you in if it’s not valid for 6-3 months so the last 3 months of the RTD is useless cause no country will let you in if your RTD validation has less than 90 days

In my experience, it's not advisable to renew the passport. Even in the RTD application itself, you're asked if you renewed your passport - since doing so increases the risk to be able to go to the COP and violating asylum conditions. There's nothing, for me, that outweighs the long term benefits of a citizenship. Not travelling as much until then, because of all things RTD, is definitely doable and well worth the bigger picture.

I agree though!!!!

It depends on how you see it. Most of us have impatiently waited decades and worked decades to get to the asylum stage where we feel safe after being granted asylum. Using the COP passport might expose you to many risks since it means that you're still acting as citizen of that country and are using a service from the country you say you're escaping. This doesn't make sense and it shouldn't be a risk. We can't just pretend it's okay to do that while it literally and clearly violates asylum conditions - and since we are fleeing from persecution and hate, we shouldn't even want to have anything to do with it before we become USA citizens. This is probably my ICE and passport control trauma talking, but I really think this is a reasoning one would use. In addition, peace of mind and well-being are also important. Many of us suffered decades to get asylum; waiting a couple more years is nothing compared to that. I cannot wait lol.
