on 1/18 all greencard holder must be fingerprinted when returning to the US, nobody objects to this?

I also support it. In fact I also think, there should be exit finger printing without an officer booth. I was born in a country where there has always been immigration and emigration control. I have no qualms with being inspected when leaving. There are several plusses coming out of it, in my opinion. A few of them being:

(1) No more, "I left and forgot to surrender my I-94, what do I do?"
(2) No more, "How will USCIS know how long I was away for?"
(3) No more.....hmmm...plenty of scope to cut down abuse by visitors and GC holders!!!

If through finger print scanning, they can avoid my last name matching someone who has an arrest warrant issued against them, then I am all for it.

I also think they must have exit control. It helps some people from getting into trouble for something they are not responsible to.
I have never seen any countries that don't have exit control other than the US.

I haven't flown out (except for transit) of any European country other than the Netherlands, so I'm not sure. But, I like that there's at least one less intrusion.

No exit control for Italy, France or Germany. I often fly out of those 3 Countries and never seen any exit control.

Would you be willing to voluntarily do both - exit and entrance control? Would you be willing to voluntarily line up with all the GC holders and others to undergo the same procedure? If so, then you are at least honest. If not, please spare us of what bullshit you would "support" and what you wouldn't.

It's easy to support a lot of things that you personally don't have to go through.

Man, these guys are so lazy. When do we get a government who actually protect us from terrorism ? They think they can do that by taking fingerprints ? Are they nuts ? What am I paying taxes for ? They sleep when multiple planes get hi-jacked and now this. But rest assure, I'm convinced they have the proper forms to report terrorists (and 10 clerks who designed the forms)

Remember what Eisenhower said:
Every bureaucracy tries everything to protect itself !

Or a former head of the FBI:
The normal 'solution' for a problem is to add more people to a case -
and the easiest way to get more people is to screw-up.

It won't make the country safer unless they extend it to citizens. Somebody who would have used a fake or stolen green card will just use a fake or stolen passport instead, to avoid the fingerprinting.

Meanwhile, it makes the country less safe as it promotes the spread of disease. Hundreds of people per day bringing their viruses and bacteria from all around the world will be touching that same surface, and I'm sure the govt won't be wiping it off frequently with alcohol, like I see them do for the green card fingerprinting at USCIS offices.

Doesn't make sense as requiring finger printing for US citizens will be a violation of the constitution.

There is a control: they stamp my passport every time I leave Shengen zone (for example if I leave from italy through France, they stamp in France, when I go through Germany - in Germany). Once I had only 30 min between flights in germany and they brought a van for me and other people from same flight specifically to go for stamping.

Was this only for passengers who had schengen visas in their passports or also for those nationalities that do not need a schengen visa but are not EU nationals, e.g. US and Canadian passport holders?

They definitely do exit controls in Italy, France and all other EU countries but the UK.
Obviously, only if you fly extra-Shengen.

passport

I have a question thats related to this. If travelling by land, will we be required to have a passport on June 1. I have read before were by land it wasnt required, and i havent seen anything in these forums stating differently. reason why im wondering now, is that it, the conversation came up as after dinner talk. thanks

US citizens, yes (or an acceptable substitute, such as a WHTI-compliant Enhanced Driver's License).

Permanent residents, no. The green card will continue to be sufficient.

Since I needed this and I am the one needed (and having) Schengen visa - I think that it (exit control out of Schengen zone) was needed for people like me (they put the exit stamp on the passport page next to the page with Schengen visa). Not sure about other non-EU folks (who do not need Schengen visa)...
