The Procedure.....
Hey Ash
Here's what happens
2/03/2005: Transfer of Cases from New York & DC District Offices to Service Centers
AILA has reported that the following green card cases pending at the New York and Washington D.C. District Offices have been transferred to the Service Centers to determine whether these cases could be decided without interviews. It appears that this may be a move to accelerate the processing times of the green card cases to meet the Bush's 5-year 6-month processing time commitment. Besides, the USCIS is expected to reorganize the field office structures by September 30, 2006 and a lot of changes are expected down the road. As reported earlier, there will be only two Service Centers.
10,000 EB-485 applications from New York local offices to Vermont Service Centers: These are the cases which the Vermont Service Center had transferred to the New York District for interviews. These cases are sent back to the Vermont Service Centers for potential adjudication without interviews. Some of the cases may be sent back to New York for interviews, but AILA predicts that a significant number of these cases may be finished up at the Vermont Service Center without interviews.
7,000 EB-485 applications from Washington D.C. local offices to Vermont Service Centers: The same will happen with these cases. In about 150 cases, erroneous notices have been issued that the cases had been transferred to the State Department rather than Washington, D.C., and people should ignore such notices. It was an error.
Some I-130/I-485 Immediate Relative cases and I-751 Condition Removal cases have also been transferred from New York to California Service Center.
