iam so happy i have an US PASSPORT,

RECENTLY THE HOMELAND SECURITY DEP announced that passengers from 14
country travelling to USA will go through a lot of screening and security check
unfortunately my country was included, i was not surprised, iam from a middle eastern country

very soon iam going vacation, i dont need all these hassels and problems in the airports,
those of us who have an US PASSPORT ARE REALLY LUCKY
GOOD LUCK TO THOSE WHO IS APPLYING OR WILL APPLY FOR N400

Yup, just the fact that you're from one of those countries, and if you look a little dangerous like I do (though I have always been left alone, for some strange reason), can cause you to be doubly screened. Let us know how it goes, but good luck, and have fun :)

ok..you don't owe nothing..you will be fine
but listen.,,i don't want to scare you..ok.. i work with refugess..some of them are american citizens allready and still cause they came from those "interest" countries they gave them a lot of agravation with THE AMERICAN PASSPORT..so my advice if you need to travel do it..but if you can wait a little bit..is gonna be better..right now even to travel domestic is agravating...
and the scenary is not the best to travel...too much agravation ,,,
good luck

thanks for the advice

i have to agree with WANT, I HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE, I HAVE EXCELLENT RECORD, I DO NOT NEED TO WORRY ABOUT IT OR EVEN THINK ABOUT IT

The process is that they will screen you IF you are boarding from these countries NOT if you are citizen of these countries. So in other words, if a person is a national of one of these 14 countries and boards a US bound flight from Europe, he would not (or should not) be screened extra just because of nationality...

If they start to discriminate in this fashion as you guys are describing, then even a US Citizen who was born in one of these 14 countries in not immune because your US passport would name that country.

Lazer, I hate to break it to you but if you are from those 14 countries & a national of it..no matter where you boarded, you were sent to extra screening. I travled a lot and that rule was in effect even before this was advertised. Surprising that they would advertise this racial profiling out in the open.

Also i had few realtives, USC came from Europe and they were also screened a bit more cuz of the place of their birth. It really depends on the airline.

Hello want. Ok I agree with you. However one more twist to this bizarre scenario is that even a US citizen who had connecting flight or boarded from these countries should expect to face pat downs for US bound flights. This is straight forward discrimination against US citizens who pass through or go to these countries. You might already have guessed this but not a whole lot of native born US citizens travel to these countries anyways, however a lot of US citizens who were once born in these countries definitely travel back to these countries. So even after becoming a US citizen, born personals of these countries will face discrimination due to their own government (US) itself.

Now as far as heavy screening of a person is concerned, whose US passport shows country of birth as being of these 14 countries, it has always happened in the past at European airports even before these formal rules.
(confirmed by my acquaintances including want's relatives).

I truly believe that Europeans are much more biased against Muslims than Americans and they have more double standards towards Muslims even though their laws are supposed to be similar to that of US (equal rights etc etc). Now, Of course this is my personal opinion but I have a lot of fodder to support this (France does not naturalize veil wearing women, Switzerland banned new Minaret construction etc). So I am not amazed to know that this was already a standard procedure in Europe. But sadly now they will get an open ticket in the light of these new laws and even though you might be a US citizen, you will always need to be ready to be screened more if you country of birth is one of these 14 countries.

Rule applies to anyone boarding from these countries even a US born citizen.Screening doesn't go by passport or by place of birth. They don't need to open your passport and read it to screen you. They have to screen you because you're boarding the aircraft.
A place of birth in your US passport is not a deal since many native US citizen have kids born outside the US.
Also, you don't need to list your country of birth as place of birth in your US passport. You can choose to list your city of birth as place of birth. The US Dept of state allows this.

US citizen since Oct 30,2009.

Lazerthegreat or anyone else... how do u calculate your eligibility for citizenship?

my card says i am resident since Oct/2006, so the earliest possible date for me to submit an application for citizenship would be 06/2011? is this correct?

PS: I used the 4years 9months rule... just need clarification- thanks

Lazer...thats the nature of the beast now! I dont mind the extra security...it makes us safe! this world has changed and we need to be extra cautious..even if that means profiling people!

WEll almost close Pinky.... it would be actually 07/2011.

Suppose the exact date is Oct 20. Then tracing back 3 months would come to July 20, 2011.

This is news to me..... does everyone concur?

thanks,

Want. Actually when something start, there is no telling where it will end. once this profiling has started, and everyone is comfortable with it, you never know where it is going to end. There have been born US citizens involved in such activities, how about patting down each and every American everytime, everywhere.

My main problem is NOT the hassle of being screened per say but more so being "singled out" just because of my country of birth even after US citizenship. Remember we chose to live in American ONLY because our countries of origin are screwed up, right? That's why we filed Asylum at one point. We chose American because of its values and justice system. I think this is first step to screwing up these values. I am quite amazed to hear that you feel OK to be profiled. I sure don't.

Lazer,

The problem is that you can't BLAME the authorities in doing that. Look, most of the bad people right now have been from those 14 profiled countries....So an obvious step is to profile and check those because thats the NORM. Now yes native born have been involved in the past but the majority have been from those 14 countries so I dont blame them for checking those based on history.

Ofcourse no one likes to be profiled. However if you have nothing to hide..why be scared! As to if you are USC and then be profiled based on the country of your birth. It really depends on the airlines from what I have seen. Some care some don't!

I think everyone should be patted down no matter the country for the security..but ofcousre they wont do that!!

I hate to jump into this but here you go.

What do you exactly propose the government do after the attempted Christmas Day bombing? Do you realize that we were seconds away from a disaster that would have claimed hundreds of lives in the air and on the ground (and sapped the tentative economic recovery that we are experiencing)?

Searching every passenger and every bag is not going to work because cross-border commerce would come to a standbill as a result. I experienced this first hand two days after Christmas.

Every airline should have their own security personnel on board & at the gate to check everyone before they board. Instead of having 10 air-hostesses...have 8 and 2 security personnel! ...they are already paying the salary of those...hire them and have them trained by the TSA!!

Instead of having one big security check..how about have check at each gate for each airline!...I have seen this methold used in Europe and it really does work! All the people who are supposed to get on a flight are being checked and you don't miss your flight..!!

i really do not mind profiling or extra security,

all i want is a safe flight, the safety of my self, family, and the rest of the passengers is more important to me than all these things about profiling

if they want to do profiling, i have no problem with that

the authorities are doing their best to ensure the safety of all of us
