Guys, is a PR authorized to legally obtain/ buy/ own a gun?

Yes, LPRs can legally own guns.

But make sure to check your state's and city's laws for any licensing and registration that may be applicable, and the laws that govern how and wear you can carry it (open carry, concealed carry, where it must be when in your car, etc.).

As an LPR, you can own a gun as long as the back ground check is clear.
Make sure you buy from a registered dealer. Do NOT buy a gun from local gun shows that might have weapons without serial numbers of that have altered serial numbers. These tend to be cheap but the saving might haunt you in the near future.
Ofcourse you don't want to buy a gun from a friend because its a good deal or something like that.

I don't mean to get into your business - but why do you want a gun?

@Jackolantern thanks! This is music to my ears
@Manalive.. great advice, gracias. As to why I need a gun well why did the founding fathers of this sweet great nation enact the Second Amendment :)? I consider owning a large gun the patriotic duty of every law abiding LPR and USC! As long as you don't use it for evil purposes that harm others of course.

The Bible is still applied too. It doesn't mean that it's not in dire need of revision/replacement. Anyone who thinks the Constitution never needs to be changed is deluded and a victim of the constant propaganda that is being spewed. The amendments are a testament to the need for constant change.

Why are you judging what's within his rights?

For full disclosure, I don't like guns either but if it's within someone's rights to own one, then that is what it is and you can't judge the person for it.

The bible, constitution ,etc really! If he likes guns more power to him .I like guns too they are awesome .Some even look and work like masterpieces in my opinion.

Why buy a mercedes when a hyundai will do same thing or does a mercedes usage need explaining too.I don't find tattoos appealing but see a lot of people do ,should i ask them for what usage all the ink is for ?

To each his own and respect each others interest and hobbies.

No no, I never said he didn't have a right to get a gun based on current laws. The first time, I just said that invoking the founding fathers' intentions doesn't always fly. The second time, I was arguing that, sure the Constitution applies now, but that doesn't mean it's infallible.

I went to PA a couple of months ago with some friends and we shot some crazy guns. It was quite fun. I'm terrified of them, though. I don't know if I'll get one. Maybe some day?

Actually I don't even think that you have to be an LPR to own a gun. In many states, you just have to have a valid drivers license and be of age (in FL 18 to buy a rifle/shotgun/whatever and 21 for a handgun). They don't care about your immigration status.

Cafeconleche never questioned anybody's right to buy/own a gun. He just indicated that the founding fathers lived in a time when owning a gun was a sign of patriotism and he is right. Hey, there was a fear after the revolutionary war that the Brits might come back.

Mombasa-guy can get a gun anytime he wants.
If a gun made me feel safe, I would get ten of them. Feel free to exercise your rights...
Some of us come from places where owning a gun is illegal despite high levels of insecurity. God bless the good old USA!!!

They always do a background check with the FBI before selling a gun and I think that takes care of the immigration status as well. FBI background check can come back with an approved, denied or on hold. I am assuming if someone is not on a LPR/USC their background check may not clear. But what do I know :)

Makes sence but I honestly doubt that FBI is gonna be aware of your immigration status as of, as you know, all government agencies (oh well, most of them like IRS, FBI, USCIS, DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE) are totally independent. But again, those are just guesses. And what FBI does is investigate crimes. So my guess is that as long as theres nothing they have on you in their database you'll be fine...
