Expedite RTD

I know there is a sticky note on how to expedite RTD/RP in case of emergency. But, what if you don't have a what might be categorized as an "emergency"

I applied for RP in Feb and looking at the speed at which USCIS is processing i won't receive my travel document until Sep(7 months). I am planning a vacation in July(for recreation). If i get it in Sep it will be useless and i have to wait until June next year for another vacation. Is there a way to expedite my RP?

If you can show some receipts for the trip, you can claim that it is causing you 'severe financial loss' and use that as the reason and ask them to expedite your request.

User your NP if you really want to go.

NP..what are u talking about. First of all i don't have one. Second of all that way i can only leave US not enter. I have to have a better plan.

Asylee, as a GC holder through asylum, you are technically allowed to use your NP if you have a valid one or if your country of origin will provide you with one. Should you have one, you can use it to freely leave and return to the US, along with your GC. Only place you shouldn't visit is your country of origin, also COP. Wierd, I know. But its the way it is.

That being said, most of us can't get a NP, which is why we use a RP or RTD.

You can write a letter to your congressman/congresswoman about this situation. In fact, visit their Web site and chances are, they will have a section on how to request their help with immigration issues. I know Cafeconleche recently did that and received help from his congressman to request an expedited RP.

Applied for RTD and "expedite" requested

I applied 3 weeks ago for RTD and requested to expedite my application. I had couple of documents from a hospital for my uncle who is sick and included 2 prepaid first class envelopes. One week later I received the biometrics appointment which I got it done on tuesday and that was mailed with the pre-paid envelope I included with my application.
My question is since they used my envelope to send the biometrics appointment does this mean that my request to expedite has been granted.
Thank you,

Most likely.

I did the same thing, requested expedited processing because of work (I am an airline pilot). I received the biometric appointment in my pre-paid priority envelope within a week. I also followed up with a phone call and requested expedited processing that way, they filed a request for me. I asked about a FAX number to send evidence and my request but was told the number listed in the sticky only works "sometimes". Ill keep everyone posted. I applied on May 07, 2008.

I am on the same boat. I have my Fingerprint appointment tomorrow. I am very curious to know how long the fingerprints will take to clear? since the finger printing (biometrics) is a new part of the process. Please continue to update us for those of you who applied.

Oh man, you're a pilot? This RTD thing must be so much more difficult for you. Suddenly my problems have disappeared... but only temporarily, hehe.

CAFE: Along with expedite service, they ask you to include 2 prepaid express envolves ( approx $16 each) I think the first one is to send out the Biometric appointment notice. Because they schedule you within a week, and the second one should be the decision. Since the Biometric thing is pretty new, I wonder how long it will take to process my application. I just did my Biometric on Friday, not sure how long it will take. And it is "Bio 2" index finger and photo was taken.

They never asked me to send any envelopes. I had also applied last year, so I don't think I need biometrics... or, I hope not.

I maybe wrong, but wasn't the biometric thing recently implemented? Possibly this year if not late last year? If you follow this link to the PDF filing instructions: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-131instr.pdf On page 6 in bold it reads "Expedited applications for Re-entry Permit or Refugee Travel Document. When mailing in this request, please notate the outside of the envelope with the word EXPEDITE. It is recommended that two pre-paid, self-addressed express mailers, e-mail addresses, and a fax number be provided with any expedite request for the Re-entry Permit or Refugee Travel Document. If the expedite request is granted and you provide prepaid, self-addressed express mailers, we will use the pre-paid mailers to send you the ASC appointment notice and travel document upon completion. If you do not provide pre-paid mailers, the appointment notice and travel document will be sent via regular mail.I hope that clears things up

Oh wow, thanks Pinkie. I think that's a new set of instructions, so I've never seen that clause. I had applied for a normal RP last year, and called them last month to have it expedited because of the time it's taking, so I didn't send them anything. Anyway, they're still taking their own sweet time, so I guess I'm screwed either way :)

It looks like these new instructions have a lot more information, such as Re-Availment and the Expedite clauses. I'm going to have to go through it thoroughly.

Glad to be of some assistance CAFE! I am sorry to hear about your case. I followed your case from previous threads, now August is a long time, i am not sure how I can pull that waiting off?
I HAVE to travel mid June and I am nervous, Like I said I just had my finger printing done, I am anxious because, there are visa requirements that will take time... If its not one thing its another. Gotta run, but will keep checking on this post for updates!

Cheers!

Any ideas on where to get cheap tickets to Europe, besides the usual sites like expedia and travelocity? Thanks!

Thanks. for your help. By the way, the expedite clause doesn't say that we have to submit a letter of explanation or supporting documents. Is this the new rule? Just write EXPEDITE? And, did you ask for yours to be expedited?

Anyway, check mobissimo.com and the airline websites directly. I've gotten good fares on nwa.com, but try all of them. Where are you going, by the way?
