DV 2025 AOS (Adjustment of Status) Process Only

Hello, Part 4, Item 7 of the new Form I-485 asks to provide ALL employment and educational history for the last 5 years. The form provides space to enter details such as the name, address, and dates of attendance for each school.

I have a situation where, in addition to attending high school in my home country and in Oregon under a J-1 visa, I also took distance learning courses in parallel from an accredited high school in Florida. I eventually earned a standard high school diploma (not a GED) from this Florida-based school, which I will try to use to meet the education requirements for my DV application.

My question is: Should I list the Florida-based high school and the dates I took the distance learning courses, even though some of these dates overlap with my physical attendance at other schools? I'm concerned that this might cause confusion.

I believe the purpose of Part 4, Item 7 is to help USCIS understand where the applicant has been physically located over the past 5 years (whether for work or school) and how they have financially supported themselves during periods of unemployment or retirement. Based on this, I'm inclined not to list the Florida high school in this section, but would appreciate your thoughts.
I don’t see anywhere it says it’s based on physical location. Would you not list an employer you were working remotely for? As you have posted it, the question says “all”.

Hi everyone, I am almost ready to submit the application for me and my wife. Finally assembled the documents today but I got a few questions while putting it together:
1. My wife doesn't work. In I485 she wrote that income source is spouse's income. She only attached tax transcripts for 3 years and all were filling jointly. As I main applicant, I attached paystubs, bank statements, etc. Does she need to include my paystubs or bank statements as a proof of income in her application?
2. Does a derivative applicant (my wife) need to include her high school diplomas and university diplomas? It doesn't say on the google spreadsheet but want to double check.
3. I want to submit our application tomorrow but not sure how to fill out money order or cashier's check. I plan to go to a nearest bank to do it. What do I put in the memo field? "AOS Fee for Firstname Lastname" or "AOS Fee for A-1234556" or "AOS Fee DV CASE 12345678". Seeing different people putting different stuff. Can someone suggest the option that worked for you before?

Many thanks!

1, if she is not the primary applicant and the total household income is above the HHS Poverty Guidelines . I believe she won’t need those documents , you can attach it either-way , Read others comments for more on this please

2, if she is not the primary applicant, it is not mandatory but if it is already on her hand , why not ? She can attach it

3,On the “Pay to the Order of” line, write “U.S. Department of Homeland Security” (not “USDHS” or “DHS”).Cashiers check is easy to use otherwise you will have to use two money order because one money order can only be $1000 or less . Some bank cashiers check might not have memo to write I-485 filing fee and A number on it but it is fine .below picture is a check just to show you the overview . You can also google USCIS filing tips and read all the details on filing including the order of documents sorting . Screenshot attached

My interview was scheduled for today

  • I-485 filed on October 4 ,2024, interview scheduled January 10th ,2025 at 1 :45 PM
  • I tried not to over dressed just black Trouser, Blue and white strip shirt with winter jacket
  • Arrived at 12:13 PM for 1 :45 PM interview too early but they say “early is on time , on time is late, late is unacceptable. “
  • The security women informed me , my earliest check in is 1:15 PM so I googled the nearest cafe and had oversea family call
  • I went back to USCIS at 1:08 PM , they let me me in to the security gate
  • I took off my shoe , bent something close to TSA security check at the gate
  • After security gate , I used the bathroom, they have the cleanest for a public place
  • Then I went to a window to check in gave her my interview notice . she took my interview notice , scanned it ,took fingerprints both right and left index fingers . She said take off your glass , I smiled and I said I don’t have one . She replied that is what I say for everyone. Then she took a picture of me .
  • she gave me a ticket and told me , he will call me from door b (that is when I know my IO Gender will be men )
  • After an hours and 20 minutes since ticket given , they call me at the window and said they have not gotten the KCC file yet. they thought they would get it by the time of the interview so they said to wait until further notice .

Bummer. Now they will send you a new interview notice? Also what is a KCC file?

So you didn’t see an IO? And will just wait for a new IL ?

Thank you for sharing! Was your case status changed to "ready to be scheduled for an interview" before it got scheduled?

Hello,

I am unfortunately still without any progress - approximately 6 weeks since RFE response was received by the FO. The letter explicitly recommended me to „respond as soon as possible as only a limited number of visas are available“ which might be standard wording. Also with hindsight on how quick this FO processed this case so far and issued an RFE, I feel like a lot of time is being wasted here.

Would it be a good idea to go in person to the FO with the RFE notice and delivery receipt to attempt to politely inquire, especially as the deadline is approaching? The letter stated that the case will be denied if no response is received by that date. I am extremely worried that the case will be denied and then I would have to go through whatever process to have it reopened, and which effect this would have on my wife as the primary applicant.

Yeah, you can visit your FO and hope the guards will be willing to admit you inside.

Hi

I'm in my 60-day grace period after graduation and thought I would have my green card by now, lol. I am applying for my OPT today or tomorrow just in case. I will have 3 pending cases with USCIS: TPS, AOS, and OPT. Being that AOS is the most important one, will having too many cases affect its processing time? god, I have to go for another biometric appointment for the third time in 12 months now.

I will try that. If there is any valuable information on how to approach this, I would appreciate to learn about that.

1. Just print another copy and ask politely to deliver the documents?
2. Any concerns with adding documents which became available in the past six weeks since sending it in?

So here’s the thing. When a RFE gets issued it is not unusual to not hear back for quite a while, your case is not unusually delayed IMO. This is barely mid-January, quite far from visas being exhausted or the FY being over. I’ve told you more than once to exercise some patience. If you’ll rather visit your FO, well you know the reason why you’ve decided to make the trip, so please use your discretion.
