DV 2024 AOS (Adjustment of Status) Process Only

Hey mom, I wonder if you know. My student visa recently expired, but I am still studying, legal, and in F-1 status via my I-20. Do I need to go out of the US to renew my visa before I submit my document package or is my I-20 enough?

Thank you.
You’re fine for as long as your I-94 remains valid and you continue to maintain your F1 status. The visa stamp on your passport is just a document that allows you to be admitted into the US. You have no need for a new F1 visa unless you plan on departing from the US and will be seeking readmission after the departure.

Hello again,

I mailed my DV lottery fee to

U.S. Department of State
Diversity Visa Program
P.O. Box 979079
St. Louis, Missouri 63197-9000.

I just wanted to send a mail with a tracking number.
I was not super familiar with the USPS terminology. And the USPS clerk did not help me.
I learned that the mail I sent is in the post office available for pick up.
What the USPS clerk did was that to send a certified mail, and apparently the certified delivery requires signature upon delivery.
Indeed now they left a slip in the PO box and returned the mail back to the post office and some from the DOS needs to pick that up in 2 weeks.
I talked with the USPS on phone and they said to me that I can not waive the signature at this point.
In your experience, is it possible for someone to pick this mail up? Otherwise I don't want to wait for 2 weeks to just get the same check back and resend it again and lose time!
Hello all,

Just to inform you that, I received my payment receipt. However it took considerable amount of time. Use priority mail instead. if you want it to be faster.

Hello mom,
I am going to translate my birth certificate and I wonder do I need to be notarized also?
Thank you

No. The translated copy just needs to be accompanied by a certified statement attesting to the translator’s fluency in both English and the language the original document was translated from.

Hey Mom, thank you for your previous help. I have two questions

1:when submitting bank statements are they looking for something? That I am financially doing fine?

2:Also a question about medical records. Do I need a new version of COVID 19 vaccine or if I was vaccinated before several times it is fine?

Thank you.

1. Yes. Yes.

Hi @Sm1smom I hope you are well, i have a question when i was filling I765,
In part 1- Reasons for applying, I am not sure if I should pick "initial permission to accept employment" or "renewal of my permission to accept employment"?
I already have an employment authorization card due to my asylum application, and it expires in September 2024. I am sending my AOS in January 2024 for dv lottery.

Thank you so much!

This will be “initial permission to accept employment” as this I-765 is AOS based, which is completely different from your current asylum based EAD.
On a side note, if you already have an EAD which is valid until Sept. 2024, including an I-765 with your AOS package is redundant IMO as that will also only be valid until the end of your applicable DV FY which is Sept. 2024.

Hi,
I am most likely to be current in February.
1. Is it too risky to do early filling ?
2. What is the worst outcome am I looking at if I file early ?
3. Even if the application is denied , can’t I apply again?
4. Apart from monetary loss for payment of dv fees and medical exam, do I also run into the risk of not being able to apply again during this year if my application is denied or rejected.
Thanks.
I called up 4 or 5 lawyers for consultation . All of them told that they have done dv Aos cases before .However, none of them had any clue of early filling. This forum is so much safer than getting a lawyer .
Thanks

All of these questions have been covered in the AOS Process Spreadsheet. Please spend some quality time by going over that spreadsheet. I recommend you start by reviewing the AOS FAQ section/tab of the spreadsheet where you'll see the answers to all of the above questions.

Hello all. I'm in the USA on an F1 visa and recently won the DV lottery. However, I've relocated to an address that's different from the one listed in my selection letter. I'm preparing to proceed with the Adjustment of Status (AOS). Could anyone guide me on whether I need to inform the relevant authorities about my new address, and if so, how? Thanks.

You ALWAYS need to report change of address while being on non-immigrant visa (with an exception of diplomatic visas) or LPR. You can do it online https://egov.uscis.gov/coa/displayCOAForm.do

I recommend you take some time and carefully go through the AOS Process Spreadsheet - this is a step by step guide for processing your DV selection via AOS. There are several tabs/sheets on this spreadsheet, so please do a due diligence of carefully going through them all. You may want to start by going through the “AOS Process” tab/sheet first, followed by the “AOS FAQs” tab/sheet. Then post follow up questions on this thread, if you still have any, after going through the spreadsheet.

Hi
I am currently in F2 visa with an I20 which was issued in 2021 and valid till 2026. However when I check i94 online, it shows an older date as my last date of entry (2019 in B1 visa) which is incorrect. It does not reflect my actual last date of entry of 2022 which I did in F2 visa. However the detailed list of travel shows my correct last date but the first part of i94 with admission date no. etc shows the older date mentioning my current status as B1 visa under which I was supposed to leave the country by may 2020. How can I get this corrected or updated? Does this mean I’m out of status?

However when I check i94 online, it shows that I’m in B1 visa ( which I had before my F2 visa) and that I was supposed to leave the country in 5 months after my last date of entry which was May 2022 . I had entered then with my F2 not B1 which is not reflecting in the i94. Does this mean I am out of status? Or can this correction be done in i94?
What was stamped/written on your passport when you were last admitted into the US?

Thanks for the swift reply Mom. There is an ‘Admitted’ stamp by CBP on the last date of entry . Also ‘F1 D/S’ is hand written within the stamp. Stamp is placed on the adjacent page of my F2 visa.

Hi,
I am on F1 visa. My son was born this year. He is a citizen by birth. So he got Medicaid. As I had no income being an international student. He got a card for food stamps. We have been using the card for 5 months now. The letter which was mailed to us with the card for food stamps, clearly states that my wife and me are ineligible for the assistance and the money is for him ( household of 1).
Later we were informed that we can also apply for a women infant care card to provide assistance for my wife and child. That would also be given to us because of my son and not us.
Both the cards could only be used to buy food.
So my query is that while filing i485, should I agree on receiving supplemental security income / temporary / general assistance for my wife and me in question 68.a.
Sorry for the long post .
Thank you.

Okay, that's good. That shows you were properly admitted, and you're not out of status. The IO that admitted you however made a mistake with your I-94, this can be rectified. Visit your nearest Deferred Inspection Sites and request they update your I-94 as you need to download a copy for your records.
