DV 2023 All Selectees (Consular Processing - CP)

Hi everyone,

I just have the medical exam today in Auckland, but the super-wired thing is the doctors there are not accepted i-693 I brought, and give me a wired form that has already expired(they insist that is the correct form). Also, they didn't accept the 5*5 passport-size photo and take the 35 mm wide and 45 mm high NZ passport size photos. Does anyone share the same experience?
The rejection of the I-693 form you took along is not super-weird. What is “super-weird” is you trying to use a form that is not applicable to you. And the expiration date on the form you were given is irrelevant - they gave you the correct form.

Okay, but the form they give me even cannot find on any website, and they only allowed me to fill in the first part personal info, even didn't allow me to sign my name at the ending part. The form is only half filled by doctors, the another half filled in i-693. And they just told me they will transfer the info later and send me back. How can I make sure the form will be completed signed by all doctors and sent to the embassy in the end? Will I receive any results? Should I show up at the medical examination place again for double-check?

I'm a DV23 winner with AF43k. My embassy is Nairobi & its performing very poorly and the people assigned to that embassy are very worried. I want to change/transfer my case to X Embassy as its performing well and that's how I can save my case.

I have recently emailed KCC to know the status of my case and they told me this “Your case number is now current for interview processing. Once the interview date has been scheduled, you will receive notification via email to check https://dvprogram.state.gov. If you need to make changes to your DS-260 you should contact the consular section where you will be interviewed, or bring the information about your changes to your interview appointment. Because your case is ready to be scheduled, KCC can no longer unlock your application.”

And now with that it means I'm in the AV queue for Nairobi embassy meaning I cannot change embassies coz I can't have KCC to unlock my DS260 so that I can change the address.
I have read this article by @Britsimon https://britsimonsays.com/how-to-change-embassies/ which talks about how to change/transfer embassies.

I believe my solution is to transfer my case from Nairobi to X embassy, but I would like to know the exact steps I can do that.

- The first step is clear, I will need to email X embassy and request them to accept my case coz "I will be in X country for the next 1 year for my studies." Anyway, I will need to come up with a good reason so that they can accept my case.
- Second is to email Nairobi Embassy and tell them to transfer my case to X Embassy because I will be there and that they have accepted my case.

But here is the problem. I yet don't have a 2nl from Nairobi meaning my case hasn't yet reached Nairobi embassy and they DON'T yet know about me.

So here are my questions.
1. How can I get off Nairobi Embassy's AVQ and change my case to X Embassy?
2. Do I need a 2nl to initiate the transfer process?

@Sm1smom @Britsimon @Xarthisius @SusieQQQ Please help me on this

They know what they are supposed to do. You don’t need to make sure of anything. On a side note, they’re supposed to give you a copy of the completed medical report for your personal records. You can go back and request this if they did not give it to you.

1. I don’t know anything about AVQ or how to get off it.
2. To initiate a case transfer from embassy A to B, embassy A must first receive the case file from KCC, so yes you’ll need to have received the 2NL. Take a look at 9 FAM 504.4-9 (U) TRANSFERRING FILES for further information on initiating case transfer - (replace NVC with KCC when you read that document, the process is the same).

Hi Sm1smom, regarding transferring to a different embassy/consulate, is what you have described only applicable once your case number is current? For example if my case number is not yet current and I move to another country can I unlock my DS260 and change it in there or do I still need to wait for my current embassy to receive the case first then ask them to transfer?

If your CN is not yet current and you wish to transfer to a different embassy, you’ll contact KCC. I recommend you read Simon’s blog for more details:

Hello,
I’d like to share with you my interview experience at the US embassy in Beirut.

Single person’s case.
I submitted ds260 on 26th May, 2022

2NL received Jan 17th
Medical done Feb 15, 2023. I collected my medical test results a week later in a sealed interview.

The interview date was March, 1st at 7:30am.

I arrived at the embassy at 7:20am. A police officer checked my passport info and asked to stand in the waiting queue. Then I went through a security check.
After entry, they gave me a checklist and asked me to sort the docs as per the checklist order. Once done, I was asked to go to the counter, they checked my documents, took my biometrics and then asked me to go pay the visa fees 330 USD.

After payment, I gave the payment receipt to the lady at the counter and I waited for almost 15 mins, then I was called to counter 7.

The consul greeted me and asked me to take an oath that everything I provided and said is true. Then she asked the following questions:
- Why did I apply for DV
- Where was I when I knew I was selected
- Have I been to the US before
- Have I lived in a country other than mine for more then 6 months
- Am I looking for jobs
- Where am I planning to reside

At the end, she returned my high school and master’s original diplomas and said that my visa was approved, congratulations and hope to see you in the US.

She gave me a white sheet to guide me register for my passport pick up.

The main interview lasted for about 5mins. By 8:30am I was done.

And that was it! Good luck to everyone in this forum!

Until you're actually married there's no point in contacting them. If you haven't received 2nl by then, contact KCC, otherwise go straight for MTL post.
I wanted to clarify something just to be sure.

I've read countless of topics and peoples stories on this forum and looks unlocking ds260 by an embassy does not always happen. Some embassies refuse to unlock ds260.

My marriage is scheduled for March 4th and my question is what happens when I receive 2nl and inform embassy about my marriage and request to unlock ds260 and they refuse? Will the change of my marital status have any impact during my interview? Can I still attend interview with my wife?

Lastly, let's say they will unlock my ds260. Will submitting new ds260 cause interview rescheduling or any other delay?

Did anyone from this forum ever got his/her Ds260 unlocked by Montréal embassy?

Hi Sm1smom

I am a DV 2023 winner and have been scheduled for interview.
I want to change my sponsor that I putted in my DS260 during the interview ( as he no Kore want to send the i134 to me ) .
I would like to know if the changes will negatively impact my case .
Thanks in advance

No negative impact.

1. If they refuse to open DS-260 (I don't know how likely that is. It shouldn't happen if you tell them why you're doing it. You have a valid reason), you still go with your spouse.
2. They won't reschedule your interview. Any additional background checking for new DS-260 they have to do, can happen while you're on 221g administrative processing.

Hi guys I had my interview on 28Feb but I was put on AP by the consular reason best known to him.

The interview was very brief, we are family of 5 and my host has 6 total 11. with total income of 117,000 the CO said it is not enough and I have to look for single sponsor whose income is 46,000.

I see this as a weird because 117,000 is above the federal poverty guidelines requirement. My question is, how many people are suppose to be in one household? Or how many people is the Sponsor required to host?

Sorry to hear that you are in this situation. The sad thing is that you cannot argue with them or appeal, as far as I know. possibly, they did not want you to crowd one household as 11 people??? If possible, look for another sponsor.

If the CO says $46k for 6 people, I guess your sponsor is in Hawaii ($46,320 for 6 people). It still puzzles me why they would reject $117k, because for 11 people the poverty guideline would be $83,225 (i.e. $46,320 +7,387*5).

You’re right the reason for AP was overcrowding in one household.

Sorry about this my brother, may Allah make it ease for you. Just look for another sponsor you have time

You’re right the reason for AP was overcrowding in one household.
While your sponsor’s income met the technicality of being above what was required, an 11 member household is highly unusual in the US, especially if that sponsor is also serving as your host. So it makes sense for the CO to request you find a new sponsor preferably a single person since you’re already a 5 member household yourself.

You’re right the reason for AP was overcrowding in one household.
If they specifically said so, can you find an alternative host address then? I find it very odd and unfair for the CO to do this, unless they checked the home size. While it's not usual to have a home occupancy this high, it is not unheard of. Many Asian families have multiple generations living under one roof, and the occupancy can easily be in the double digits.
