Heya joyd.
Ya, I haven't been here that much lately and I guess that now that we have our cards, I might be away for 5 years or so until the citizenship stage (if we're still in the US) :).
Just to clarify, the "DUI" incident was during a Friday night spot check -- they were pulling over...
Are most people planning to carry their green cards with them at all times?
What about your kids?
I'm kinda worried about losing the card if I keep it in my wallet (and I can probably count on the kids losing theirs within a week...). I was thinking of just carrying a photocopy with me...
I think 10 years is standard. Our expiration dates are slightly more than 10 years after our approval date. e.g. I was approved on 12/16/2004 but the card expires on 01/19/2015 (maybe its tied to the actual manufacture of the card). The "resident since" date is the approval date (12/16/2004)...
Afaik, COBRA is discounted in that you get the same rate that the employer was paying (which is probably somewhat lower than you can get on your own).

I was just about to log off when I noticed this post :).
My card was mailed a few days ago. I expect it could show up today. My wife's card was mailed today. Our online status was updated for each change (card ordered, card mailed with a few LUD changes prior to the card ordered message)...
At worst, you may need to file a new LCA (Labor Condition Agreement) for the H1B. I was in the same boat as you and we filed one but I moved over 1200 miles. It seems possible that you may need to file one even for a 6 mile move just to update the company's address but you'd have to ask a lawyer...
If you can't get your own appointment you could always try...
When my wife and I went to the Dallas service center for stamping last month, we each had appointments (1/2 hour apart) but they processed us together (they kept one of the appointment printouts and gave us a single ticket so we...
I'm pretty sure you can try, as long as you have your approval notice etc. Things might be different at different locations though...
I think they suggest that you arrive about 15 minutes early in general. They also apparently won't let you in much before your appointment time.
I'm not...
FYI, my wife and I went for our stamping today at the Dallas service center.
Our Infopass appointments were for 9:30am and 10:00am. We showed up at about 8:50am and at that time there were already about 50 people waiting in 3 lines, all outside (fortunately the weather was pretty nice here...
You only need to get the kids stamped if their cards haven't arrived before the appointment date and you want to have proof that the kids are PRs (e.g. if you need to travel). Chances are the cards will arrive very soon though.
As USA_GC2004 said, you will need separate appointments for...
Yes you need to go for stamping. In addition to getting the I-551 stamp in your passports, you will supply them with 2 passport style photos (2 for each of you) and your fingerprint which are needed to make the card.
Your kids probably don't need to be stamped. You could make an appointment...
Did you ever get a welcome notice for your son? Maybe this is what the updated status is for. I wouldn't worry too much if you have the card -- he's a PR now and I've never heard of cases where this was "reverted" (except for fraud).

Update...
Well, today we received the cards for both of my kids. One kid got a welcome notice, the other got an approval notice. My wife and I also got our approval notices so we're all set to go for our stamping in Dallas on 12/30/04.
I guess maybe this will show up eventually but from what...
