You better check with your attorney. I was under the impression that as soon as you have filed I-485 you cannot leave the country without the AP. If you do, you abandon the the entire application for permant residency.

My case is similar: WAC-03-179-5XXXX RD for both EAD and AP applications: 05/23/2003 EAD approved on 26th Aug, 2003 (not received card in mail yet). AP not yet approved.
