nope. it was completely separate from my immigration status. in fact, they knew I was a foreign national because i used my passport to prove my old name. but it didn't matter at all.

It just means that you can apply for a reentry permit only when you are physically in the US.

Before your embassy schedule an interview for you, it has to request to DOS to assign a visa number for your visa. If your PD is not current at that time, the embassy won't be able to schedule your interview.

I was told that DOS assigns visa numbers at the begining of month for requests made in the previous month. Does the US embassy tokyo send out packet 4's for the next month all at once as soon as they receive the visa numbers? or maybe...

Basically they are saying that Drs. Rxxx’s and Ragxxx’s professional credentials are better than yours and asking you to prove that you are as good as them.
