WHen you move, there are two reasons and two places to report the address change:
1. To BCIS, if you have a case pending with them (so that any communication is sent to the new address).
2. Fill out form AR-11 and send it to the address on the form (I believe it used to be in Washington...
1. No one knows for sure but marriage after (or soon before) I-485 filing, change of employer etc. are possible reasons. Also, BCIS picks certain cases at random for interviews.
2. Depends on the local office. It can vary any where from a month to a year (or longer).
3. Yes. If you are...
Here is what I gathered based on postings on this forum:
Read carefully the birth certificate you have. Usually, there is an "issued date" and a "registered date." The former is the date that you actually got the certificate whereas the latter is the date when your birth was registered by the...
I-797 is the general form no. for "Notice of Action."
This could be a "Receipt Notice" or an "Approval Notice" or a "Transfer Notice" or anything else that you receive from BCIS in response to an appl. Probably they are asking for the "Approval notice" here.

Transfer to a different Service Center is not your option. It is done by BCIS, if necessary. Based on postings in this forums, NSC does not ordinarily transfer I-485 cases in these situations (other than occassional transfer to a local office).

Thanks Paulclarke1 for pointing that. I didnt know it was right from this forum. That makes this sound lot more credible.
In any case, its a positive story and am sure would give hope to lots of folks here.

This certainly sounds good. I believe the lady was an IIO at CSC, so am not sure how much of it carries over to NSC. There are several elements of truth in the posting (things being going well around Dec 2001, the INS goof of sending visa approvals to dead people etc.). However, I am wondering...
One other advantage of local transfer is that you can inquire about the status of your case by walking upto the the Seattle office. The Seattle office also has an email/fax for enquiries (I dont seem to remember either one now but you can find that out from the Seattle office). I believe EAD/AP...
After I-485 is pending for more than 180 days, revokation of I140 has no bearing as per AC21. It is suggested that you inform BCIS about the change of job. Make sure the new job is "similar" to the current one. As always, this is not legal opinion.
K.S.
It is a good thing in the sense that they have taken a look at your file. Also, Seattle isn't that bad (compared to Chicago or Detroit). Typically they send out interview letters in 2-3 months time frame and the interview is usually a month thereafter (see the relevant thread under "local...
Re: Address Change and effect on Service Center
Most likely, VSC would continue to process it. If a local transfer is done, it would be to an office in WA (Seattle or one of its sub-offices). In any case, you dont have to do anything about the transfer. VSC will do it, if necessary, and...
maverick1976:
As andy2000 pointed out, BCIS may not issue an RFE. They might actually issue NOID if the I-140 is revoked by the employer and you have not notified them about the job change. It is therefore advisable to notify BCIS of the job change invoking AC21 rather than wait for an RFE...
achal:
Since you got the receipt notice, BCIS has recd. the correct fee (as of the date it was recd. by BCIS) and has accepted the appl. Either your lawyer mailed it before feb 27 or wrote a check for $305. Your receipt notice from BCIS should state the fee recd. by BCIS.

The filing fee for 485 was reduced for a small period of time in Jan/Feb of 2003 (the reasons are detailed but not important here). The reduced fee was $186 (+$50 for FP) = $236. However, effective 2/27/03, the fees were reinstated to $255 + $50 for FP = $305. Since you filed in May...
Most applicants include the FP fee along with the 485 filing fee. If you dont, BCIS might get back to you asking you to pay that fee. But it is better to include it upfront.

Presumably your friend received an approval notice (for the appl. for change of status from H1 to F1) from BCIS. The notice would state something like "... your appl. was approved on xxxx". I am not sure if BCIS "back-dates" the approval but that is possible. That date is the date...
