Visible Distinguishing Mark field is blank in OCI re-issue form

Solution Looks like you'll have to get rid of the visible distinguishing mark, in order to comply with the form :p

Has anyone travelled after FP and before Interview

I traveled overseas 2 times for short work trips since the time I mailed my N-400 to the time I took the interview. On the second trip I came back the day before the interview. No problems whatsoever.

    Couples filing together N-400

If one of you has requested a name change, then the oath could be delayed. This is what happened to my wife. We sent in the N-400 in the same packet, and got fingerprints and interviews on the same day. But my wife's oath was scheduled almost 1 month after mine was done. We think this is due to...

    Changing your signature

Thank for the replies. What you both said was right. I was asked to sign my name at two places on the N-400 and print the full name once. But looks like there's not going to be any 'matching' of signatures on the N-400 with future documents. I went with my new (but still legible) signature.

    Changing your signature

Hi all, I have my citizenship interview in 2 days (application based on LPR for 5 years). This may seem frivolous, but my question is about my signature, i.e. the way I sign my name. I have two signatures. I have a crummy one that I have used since i was 18. It is too plain, and easy to...

Naturalization Interview - asked to come back for 2nd interview to test English Understanding

Prepone? Make sure you don't ask the officer to 'prepone' the interview. It won't help your case...because 'prepone' is not a word! Maybe within the Indian subcontinent, but not in the US. This reply is only half serious, btw. Good luck.

    Travel restrictions during citizenship process

Re: travel restrictions Thanks a lot for the quick answers. It helps to know I can travel as long as I can keep the appointments. I just checked and I have over 30 overseas trips in the period from Oct '05 to now, most, about a week and none longer than 3 weeks. Barring a handful of personal...

    Travel restrictions during citizenship process

Hi, I and my wife became LPRs in Sep 2005. I am considering starting the US citizinship process, and I was wondering if there are any travel restrictions once the process begins. If so, in which phase of the process? I normally need to travel outside the US about once in 2 months (1 week...

    OCI application for Minor ONLY

Update... I emailed the SF consulate section and they confirmed (pretty quick reply, actually) that minor children of Indian citizen parents are now NOT ELIGIBLE for OCI status. There ends my OCI chapter for now. bltzkrig

    OCI application for Minor ONLY

they changed the rules! $%x#&&@$^!!!!! I was horrified to see the new FAQ cited above. I looked at the copy of the FAQ that I had saved in Aug 2006 when I applied for my child, and it has no mention of minors of Indian citizens not being able to apply. Questions 5 and 6 are new additions to...

PIO is the answer for Expedited OCI processing

Wish I had known this earlier. I applied for my baby's OCI status at SFO about three weeks ago, but there's no acknowledgement yet. I understand now that the acknowledgement itself may take about 10 weeks. I now have a choice of applying for a Visa ($65-85) or a PIO ($155) for her to be able...

    OCI application for Minor ONLY

That's not quite what I did. I put my child's thumb impression at only one place - in the box at the top of Part A. For Part B Item 24, I wrote my child's name on the dotted line (I/We, <child's name>) but signed myself in the Signature area, indicating "On Behalf of <child's name>". In...

    OCI application for Minor ONLY

Thanks tdesai! I will do as you suggest in the other threads (sign on behalf of minor child). I do believe that some more thought and care could have gone into drafting these forms, to make them error free and consistent. -bltzkrig

    OCI application for Minor ONLY

hi all, I'm trying to file an individual OCI application for my minor child ONLY. PART A is clear enough. But PART B seems to be made for an adult applicant (and his spouse and minor children). Filling it in for a minor first applicant creates inconsistencies. Specifically, my questions...

should I pay the attorney this 1000?

I don't know about contract issues, but I think you should absolutely pay your lawyer for the balance due. Not doing so would be totally unconscionable. Mistakes happen - what's important is how they are dealt with. The lawyer was good enough to accept the blame and correct it - leading to an...

    Traveling using AP

Thank you EB1doc - the link clears up a lot of the confusion. The key seems to be that you continue working for the same employer in order to be in H1-B status. Also, the last point seems to indicate that if you use the AP to enter the country today, you may choose to use a valid H1-B visa to...

    Traveling using AP

Based on what my lawyer told me when I was in this situation, I am inclined to believe the same way as NIW_NSC - that once you use the AP to enter the country, you are a parolee, and lose your H1-B status. Then, if your I-1485 (or your concurrent I-140/I-485) is denied, you are out of status...

Regarding H1 during 485. Please advise

As I understand, H1-B visas are "dual-intent" and an intent to immigrate to the US should not affect the H1-B status. Please see the last question on the page http://uscis.gov/graphics/howdoi/h1b.htm I was in a similar situation. While my 140 and 485 applications were in progress, I...

Speeding ticket before GC - Do I have mention it in N400?

In deciding whether to report a speeding ticket from the distant past on the N-400, would it be reasonable to follow the following guideline? Get your driving record from the DMV of every state that you lived in (usually available for ~$10), and if the ticket appears on the record, then...
