Hi all,
My wife recently applied for Citizenship (N-400) based on her marrigae to me, a US citizen. Now we have received an email notice that provided the receipt number and mentioned "Your USCIS application/petition has been received and routed to the National Benefits Center for...
To clarify, my wife has joined me 2 years and 9 months ago [April 2007]. So does that mean to satisfy the following I need to wait till April 2010?
"and living with your U.S. citizen spouse for 3 years before you may file your application"
I would appreciate any advice.
Regards,
Hello,
I have a question regarding the time of filing N400 for my wife. I am a US citizen and we have been married for longer than three years. She has been living here since April 2007 as a permanent resident. The USCIS website provides a document called "M-476" which says the following...
I have received my OCI a few months ago from the New York Consulate. I sent my Indian passport and USA passport in the same packet after the processing was complete (and papers were received at the CGI NY) according to the status web site.
Everything went fine, they returned canceled Indian...
Hi all,
Thank you for your replies. Now it makes sense, but I suppose it depends on the consulates whether the additional $20.00 is necessary or not. The fee will be on its way shortly.
I was also confused about the non-Indian passport at first, but then I rationalized to myself that...
Now two and a half months after sending in the application; I have been calling the PIO line, a kind soul picked up the phone and told me everything is ready but I need to send them $20.00 for mailing my paperwork back.
I have already paid $385.00 which I understood included the $20.00 for...
Hi ReturnHome,
That is correct, no communication from the consulate at all. I have applied to the NY office. At this point I will be happy to at least get a confirmation from them that they are working on it, however long it takes.
Unfortunately driving to NY is not exactly an option...
I applied for PIO visa for my wife in April 2008. According to USPS tracker the Consulate received the application packet on 24th April and according to my bank they have cashed the $385.00 cashier's cheque ($360.00 + $20.00 for mailing back PIO) on May 5th. After that no response so far. Phone...
Hi everyone,
Thank you for your responses. Can someone that has recently got a PIO visa from the NY consulate please confirm the time-line? Is it possible they have just slowed down?
Thanks again for sharing.

Hi ReturnHome,
How does one go about contacting the NY consulate? Most posts I have read about this mentions that they (consulate people) do not pick up the phone nor do they answer emails. Any idea is appreciated.
Thanks and regards,
Hello all,
I have applied for my wife's PIO visa at the New York office in April 2008. According to the USPS tracker they have delivered the package on April 24th, 2008. So far (this is June 8th, 2008) I have received no response at all.
Could someone please tell me what should be the...
Hi N400Atl,
Thanks for the help. However, I doubt the notary public here in Massachusetts will touch anything related to marriage certificate. When I took the paperwork, she (the notary public) did not even even look at it as soon as she knew it was a marriage certificate.
Any other...
Hi all,
I am preparing PIO application for my wife who is a non-Indian citizen. One of the supporting document I need is a copy of marriage certificate. The notary public told me they can not notarize a marriage certificate. How did you do it or did you send just a photocopy?
I am...
Hi colnago24,
I got my OCI done through the New York consulate, recently. For both passports (US and Indian) I had only sent the page containing photo and personal information. I had sent a notarized copy as you have mentioned. As for the photo, I used a white background one and it worked...
Hi,
As others have said, PIO card will be the only option for your non-Indian wife if she is seeking the visa through marriage. I am on a similar boat.

Hi aGCseeker,
Thank you for your helpful reply. Here is another question I have.
Q1. Could I send my passports along with a self-addressed and stamped "Express Mail" envelope or must I send $20.00 in certified cheque with the passports? [I have applied to the NY Consulate.]
Q2. What...
