I applied for my passport at the ceremony itself. I know several people who made a copy of the certificate, which is illegal, and then applied at their neighborhood post office. No problems there either. But I'm not sure how making a copy of the certificate will help...
I wouldn't worry much. I think folks at the passport office would record it from your original naturalization certificate that you sent along with the passport application.
Finally I received my oath notification today and it is scheduled for Nov 4th at 1:00 PM. The letter was mailed from Nebraska and the oath venue is Exposition Hall in Indianapolis. :) :) :)
Today the immigration officer at Indianapolis DO confirmed that my oath has been scheduled to take place on Nov 4th and to expect the letter in the next two weeks.

Yes, you need to submit the original along with the passport application. Once the application is processed your original naturalization certificate will be returned along with your new US passport.
