Waiting Asylum decision

My case was expedited and went to the interview on the 27th of March 2025 and status changed to application is pending then i waited for 6 months until yesterday October 8th 2025 changed to decision is pending. My interview was less than 1 hour in Minnesota office. so its nearly 7 months and still waiting for the decision. Chicago office is very slow.

On the day of the interview the AO was helpful and waited for me explain myself. and he did not really ask tough questions. but i submitted all the evidence and it was a lot
If you had a legitimate reason to expedite your interview, you can try to use the same process & reason to expedite the decision.

Even though my officer had all evidence as copies, they still asked to show some evidence during the in-person interview.
When they see original version of the evidence, they made a mark on the case "verified with original".
I think it's a good sign and shows that evidence wasn't fabricated.

It's my speculation but I think the longer you wait - the higher chance for approval or second/third interview.
This is only based of being on this forum thread for 2 years and seeing how people are getting approval after approval when they wait for long time.
What is the longest wait you have seen here and what is the average wait?

I think mine was one of the longest I observed - 14 months. I suspect it because my AO quit, they assigned new person and it took some time to get to my case.

I believe that typically cases get decision within either 2 weeks or 3-4 months.
Everything else brings people to this forum thread for emotional support.

After 12 months of wait, I believe you can file mandamus comfortably. Some lawyers even advise to file after 6-7 months.

it was legitimate that is why they expedited my case and what surprised me the most was the questions so easy and interview length less than 1 hour.. Do you guys think its a good sign or not?
And the AO was a supervisor.

If the reason for expediting is still valid, use it to push USCIS to issue decision for you.

1 hour interview is short comparing to mine (4 hours). The section where you go through your form at the beginning & section at the end where you go through eligibility questions, took around 40-50 minutes for me.
I'm surprised how can you have enough time to explain your case in the remaining time.

I had a friend who had an interview around that length and he got approval within 2 weeks. Officer was very well aware of situation in his country and didn't go deep into the actual story in the statement.

4 hours that's crazy and which office did you go to?

that's too much.
Is true that when application changes from " application pending' to " decision pending' is a good a sign.
I never had this status change so can't talk from my experience.
Based on messages in this thread, I don't think it means anything or can be interpreted as bad/good sign.
It's possible that someone started reviewing case and changed status on USCIS side.

thank you i will expedite my decision as from tomorrow

Its good that we Pray to our lord Jesus for he is the ruler of the earth, he said he gave us power to rule the earth.
,said do not be afraid of anything for we have the victory already. We will get approvals by the grace of God

True I agree with you . I spent just an hour in the first part, which includes reviewing just the application in both interviews. The issue I could not confirm was that the officer had my supporting evidence, which is very important to my case. The officer said, I do not know if I have it or not. In my first interview, the officer was super smooth, but I was met with a very tough and more senior officer the second time. My case is very strong, supported with everything, but even though I showed and presented my case as if I was a lawyer, as I did not have a lawyer in my interview. I was on my own . Easy, fast interview means nothing. Officers, when they want to approve, tend to ask and check credibility and consistency to be sure and have basics for their decision. That is where interview takes more time than usual

Application pending is when a document is missing or you are about to receive rfe/second interview and when it’s completed it will be decision pending…decision pending asylum officer and supervisor officer review pending … there is no bad or good sign at all

Right, what was the reason for your second interview and where did you get interviewed?

i disagree with you on that one. i have seen people going 4 hours interview but got denied. less or more hours means nothing

I believe they wanted to get more information and documents, which I provided this time. I wish I had a lawyer with me; I was stressed explaining legal terms on my own.
Yeah it’s very hard doing these things without a lawyer but having a second interview is a big positive and always better than a rejection

I am just talking in general, but yes, it might get approved even if the interview is very short. It depends on the claim and the person’s case. But in general, I saw many people spend more time and get approved, and some waited months or years to get a decision, while some got approval in just a few days. So it is not standard . it’s different from one person to another. Do not panic; relax, everything will turn out perfect as it should be. There are no patterns; everyone’s life is different . it’s not science :)

Yes, but I spent almost 4 hours. We both got tired, and I explained every legal document, law, and report too. I cried a lot after my interview .
