Will This Affect My Citizenship Application?

I've been here legally since about 94. I just turned 21. When I was 18 I worked for FedEx and got fired for stealing an IPod. I returned it and I was let go, I wasn't arrested or charged with anything I just got fired. I'm worried that this will affect my application when I do decide to apply. I have a clean record and no traffic tickets. Well just for driving without insurance. Will the firing for stealing affect my app?

A firing from an employer does not affect your application. However, any arrest or charges related to a firing can. In your case you have nothing to worry about as you were never charged with any crime.

Thank the lord. I'm very worried about this because I intend to apply for the California Highway Patrol but you need to be a citizen!

Whew, what dumb mistakes we make when we're young. I know it's only been three years but I would NEVER do that today.

Nikefutbulero,

Like Bobsmyth said, you don't have anything to worry about. I am serious. I'll give you an example. It was as if you were pulled over by a cop for speeding but the officer let you go away with a verbal warning without issuing a ticket/citation. Are you going to report that as a valid ticket.......ofcourse not. Since you were just fired from that FedEx job, that was your punishment and you have already paid the price. It has not gone against your or is sitting in your records somewhere. Don't worry at all. You're good.
Good luck with this new position of Calif Highway Patrol.

Maybe in the years ahead as a CHIP officer you will remember being young and foolish and give some other kid a break, if he deserves it. :-)

Everyone deserves a second chance but there will be a character here that will inflame you and tell you that you don't deserve citizenship and call you names. just ignore him. Good luck with your application!

Second chances should be for mistakes. STEALING is a not a mistake, unless the IPOD fell into his pocket...

Thanks for all the responses..You all have been really helpful! Is there somewhere on the application where I should state what happened, or should I not mention it?

In New York, don't they say "forget about it?" Hehe, anyway, when you apply to be a CHiP, are you going to tell them why you were fired?
