Waiting Asylum decision

We waited 8.5 years for our interview. It would be so dumb if we would need to wait another 8 for a decision.
If you got interviewed through mandamus, they usually give decisions in 120 days, quick note, you should not dismiss your mandamus case until you get the decision

Nope, there was no Mandamus. I was surprised to see the invitation, thought they forgot

Hello!

Does anybody have a fresh time line for Chicago office how long it takes to get a decision after an interview?

Thank you
Hey bro. I can't help you with this but would you mind telling me how long have you been waiting before you get your interview notice? (a timeline would be really appreciated)

Hi everyone,
My asylum case was approved on Nov 22 at the New York asylum office, but I still haven't received an approval notice. My lawyer received a copy of the approval a few days ago. What should I do?

thank you for sharing! I hope you get some updates soon, if you don't mind me asking how long was your interview, did they ask you for any additional documents after?
4 hours. it was quite exhausting. No documents were requested - I brought everything I have with me

Thank you for the information. Waiting decision after WOM. My lawyer said to hear back from them within 60 days not 120. Which one is right ?

As far as I know it is 60 days to respond, however the office can ask another 60 days. In this case your attorney will let you know that they requested another 60 days.

I wanted to share some insights. By using Mandamus, it’s possible to expedite the process and get a decision within 4-5 years.

There are 2 variants:

1) Before interview.
Mandamus can be filed after 2 years of waiting (sometimes earlier, but most lawyers recommend waiting at least 2 years). Once Mandamus is filed, the decision must be made within a maximum of 120 days.

2) After interview.

If the initial interview occurred within 2 years of filing, Mandamus can be used 2 years after the interview if the application remains in “pending” status. If there is a second or even third interview, a decision must still be made within 120 days after filing Mandamus.

In the worst-case scenario, the process from filing to decision should not exceed 5 years.

Mandamus is not a free process, but we should be grateful for the legal ability to accelerate decision-making and avoid indefinite delays
