That is not a combination of degrees. That is the way US system works. You go, do Bachelors for 3 or 4 years (120 credits) and then you go and do masters for 1.5 or 2 years (30 credits + thesis). That is what they expect to see and you have it. A combination would be if you had 3 year BA in Education and 3 year BA in Ccomputer Science and you are trying to use it as BA and Masters. Or you had Bachelors and a certificate course.

My husband think that the Trustforte put on the same sheet because my lawyer sent the both diploma. IRS doesn't accept DIFFERENT combination of degree such as Computer Science + Bachelor Art in Education.

There is a twist here: you cannot do masters if you don't have bachelors. Ask your lawyer if you are so worried about this, but I don't think it is an issue. Has your lawyer seen the evaluation? Also, it is considered bad taste to have BA in Comp. Science, Masters in Comp Science :). Most people try to diversify, so have more stuff on their resumes.

Also, about the credit score. When you start shopping for mortgage, they will pull it for you :). Just don't do it too many times, as every time you check it, it goes 5 points down. I was told that this does not hold for mortgage checks, but I am not sure.

Then I am not clear what do you have. What I have is: 5 years of study in Computer Science + thesis. This is recognized as Masters in Computer Science. I have just one course of study with one diploma. The original diploma says: diplom engineer in computer science.

How many years did he study and how many diplomas did he get?

PS. About this 5 year degree: If it is translated in english as Bachelors though the original does not say that, it would be very hard to maintain that it is masters

1. He studied 5 years Computer Science and got engineer diploma = 300credits. In Romania after 5 years of university he got dissertation thesis or diploma thesis.
2. He has cerificate not diploma in Education - diploma thesis
3. He has Master from Romania means another year but I don't have the diploma because we left on oct 2005. After this Master the same situation like bachelor...he got diploma thesis.

Total:
* 5 years bachelor Computer Science.
* 1 year bachelor in education
* 1 year master (we don't have in US the diploma)

So your 5 years in Computer Science are like mine 5 years. Just your husband has some extras. What does you lawyer think about this? Didn't she take all documents from you to decide what to do?

So you can use the 1. evaluate it to masters and not muddy the water with the rest?

Don't worry that much.

I told you before the same lawyer did for us H1b and she translated everything here in US. I wanted to ask you for my sake...just it.

sorry...

we translated everything in Romania and she did here the academic equivalency evaluation....

Then you really have nothing to worry about. I got the impression that you did the equivalency alone and have not shown it to the lawyer (some people do this :)). 5 years degree from Europe is Masters according to the american standart. (Mine was counted as Masters from the US university without any evaluation).

I am still confused by the education part though. I think the important part is that you have document saying that there is MS degree in Computer Science.

Well, that depends on how much money they will want. But I agree with you that doing evaluation only on the Comp Science part is not a bad idea.

At the and you understood my problem...yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!

Our government passed a law around 2000 that all 5 year degrees with thesis are Masters. Now Technical University issues that as official statement, addition to the diploma That such and such graduated with Masters in Computer Science. I asked my mother in law to go pick it up. So I do have a Masters, not that I will ever use it.

Hi unsure,

Can you tell me please where you evaluated your 5years diploma from Europe....at an U.S university( without any evaluation?..but then what did they give you to justify that your5years diploma is equivalent as a U.S master degree?)...or from an evaluation agency?

Thank you in advance.

I never evaluated the degree. It was not necessary. I have the diploma, clearly saying that it is 5 year degree with defended thesis, the transcript and the statement from my university that this is a masters degree. It was accepted as US Masters when I came in US to study. No evaluation required, just original translation.

For the GC process I also requested the citation from the congress decision stating that all bulgarian 5 year degrees with thesis awarded by Technical University are Masters.

I think the lawyers did an evaluation in addition to all this (they are very, very cautious company). The evaluation, based on time and number of classes also said Masters. Don't know who did it.

Hi unsure,

johnnymnemonic....told me that they have pedagogy courses, that's why on their evaluation it's written Bs in Education.......my husband doesn't have that pedagogy classes....so I'm wondering...without that courses..
....does he have enough credits on the trascript?..
...do you think that his laboraties/projects are taking into consideration for credits?

...and how many courses did you have in your 5th year?
....on your transcript is it written how many credits do you have?
...if we want that piece of paper from our university to justify that it's equivalent to U.s master...do we have to take it personally?..or somebody can pick it up for us?

Sorry for so many questions.

You can calculate approximately the credits. Two 75 min lectures per week make 1 class with 3 credits. Add a lab (1 hr per week) - 4 credits. B.S. needs 120 credits, MS - 30 to 40 credits + the thesis. So, take the labs in account, and see how many there are...

I graduated 12 years ago and don't remember how many classes I took in last year, sorry. My transcript does not state credits, we did not have such thing back then. It states lecture hours and lab hours per week.,

Call your university and see how they work. Ours did not care who is taking the documents.

I also recommend that you consult an experienced attorney how to proceed with this issue. I have never done perm, and I am not sure that ISCIS will accept a degree in a way university does.

Two weeks have passed and there are three weeks and 5 days to go. Yeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!! :p Unsure, how many days have passed? Good LUCK EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!

I don't know!! Ad posted Jan 10th, posting date changed to Feb. 8th on Feb. 8th. I guess we are starting from the beginning, so 58 days to go
