Of course you do. That's why they're non-swinging states. I live in New York. It always votes democratic, because most of people vote democratic, and they are the ones who influence the outcome. If I were to vote Republican, I would also be influencing the outcome.
How so? If you are from NY (blue state) and vote for the republican presidential candidate – how is your vote going to influence outcome since the presidential election is not based on popular vote?
Oh, I can see this already...
CNN Breaking News: As a result of a software error in voting machines manufactured by Indras Sistemas, Emilio Gonzalez has secured a landslide victory in the race for the President of the United States.
CNN Breaking News Update: Emilio Gonzalez's presidential win has been annulled by the courts as he's not a US born citizen.

Unless Emilio uses his influence to pass the 28th amendment!![]()
Yes, in November of a national election year, you are not just voting for the president. You are also casting votes for (or against) changes to the law, as well as voting for senators and congresspersons. Even if the state overall is a hardcore blue state or red state when it comes to voting for the president, many of the non-presidential politicians do not have a predictable victory or loss.Ladybuggy, I would encourage you to vote. Remember that in many elections people not only vote for elected positions but for propositions.
I think we legal immigrants don't have much to worry about with any of the candidates. They're not extremely right wing (like the Italians now- they are absolute fascists again). Even illegal immigration is just an issue that is brought up off and on for them to have something hot to discuss... they're not going to do anything about it. So, you will have to look at other issues. PLEASE DO! They're out there, everywhere. You can even contact the candidates' office and ask them for information.
Your theory is not perfect. The electoral college map changes over the years and the history of the United States. Do not forget there used to be a time Texas used to vote Democratic. November will show if there is a big shift in the mapYou have NO influence whatsoever if you live in one of the non-swinging states.
No matter how you vote – your vote is not going to change anything. For example if you live in Texas – there is no point in voting if you are democrat and vise versa in California.
And then even if you live in swing states – it all comes to the electors – for whom they are going to vote.
